30th March

Changes are coming to Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2, or more specifically, skins, weapons, and more are coming!

While we're on course for Season 3 in the latest chapter of Fortnite, plenty of new content is being dropped into the game.

A group of Fortnite leakers has been trawling the game files, and they've come up with the goods. It seems that we'll be seeing an Easter-themed event, as well as some kind of cardboard shenanigans. Oh, and plenty of Deadpool of course!

Check out all the latest stuff that will be hitting the battle royale in the coming weeks right here.

21st February

The season is here, but Battle Pass owners are feeling a little disappointed. That's because the new Maya skin, which boasts millions of customisation options, is locked as soon as players have created theirs.

You can read more about the issue here. Here's hoping Epic lets player rebuild Maya in any way they see fit!

20th February

The season is live!

The day has finally come, and it looks as though the game's trailer has leaked thanks to FortTory on Twitter. Looks as though we'll be getting a secret agent theme and the season is known as "Top Secret".

The same Twitter account also released the Battle Pass trailer that you can watch here.

The craziest leak looks to be the addition of Deadpool. No, we can't believe it either, plus Meowscles and Midas.

We also have an idea of some of the changes coming to the map, courtesy of the Tweet below, and it looks like Helicopters are back.

19th February

Fortnite fans love a mystery to solve, and it looks as though through some image manipulation they've found some fresh secrets hidden in Epic's latest teaser images.

By tweaking the images, a Reddit user has seemingly revealed a new location is coming to the spot where Eye Land currently is in the centre of the Chapter 2 map.

It also looks like there's a helipad on the new "base" that's due to be added, sparking speculation a fresh vehicle is coming to the game.

18th February

@FNBRHQ has pointed out that the dynamite will return in Chapter 2 Season 2.

He goes on to say "We’re definitely getting an Oil Rig landmark! #Fortnite The U.S. number when you call: Recruitment by agencies is a fact. Happy hunting agents. Agents, oil rig operation is a go."

@FNBRHQ also noted that a new location has been revealed.

Now Donald Mustard, Creative Director at Epic Games, has changed his location on Twitter to "Redacted", the same location that players can find a bunker at present.

This comes from @FNBRHQ on Twitter.

Has the theme for Season 2 been leaked?

As pointed out by Lucas7yoshi on Twitter, the Fortnite website code alludes to something called The Takeover. Could this be the name of Chapter 2 Season 2?

On top of that, reliable leaker HYPEX posted this earlier today.

Things are starting to get a little strange in the Fortnite world, as well as the real world.

New signs have begun appearing in cities all over the world, and in Sao Paulo the phone number on it leads to this phone message (from @Flakespower).

“Yes sir.”

“The agents were called.”

“Card to access the safe purchased.”

What does it mean? We'll keep updating you as and when we hear anything!

As Lucas7yoshi points out, the first Season 2 teaser for Chapter 2 was humorously redacted with the colour gold.

With the "Gold" theme starting to permeate the game more and more, it looks Epic was throwing hints around nice and early – we just missed them all.

How To Download

Looking to download the latest seasonal patch update?

Here's how you can download it for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Mobile.

A New Engine

The new season brought a brand new engine with it.

Fortnite switched to Unreal Engine's Chaos physics engine. It's the first time the battle royale game has undergone a change like this.

Almost every prop and part of the environment has been upgraded in the v11.50 update to work with the Chaos physics engine, including buildings, trees, vehicles, and more.

Epic said that there could be minor faults with the implementation of the new engine, so players should keep that in mind if they experience any issues in the future.

Map Changes

There are two main changes to the Fortnite Chapter 2 map, with Eye-Land being completely overrun by a huge base that's full of loot.

On top of that, you can find an oil rig in the southwest corner of the map, with a fresh spot to drop for intrepid players.

Previously, players were expecting a big flood to appear as Holly's Hedge revealed a hidden message that spells out "NOAH".

In the season leading up to the finale of Chapter 1, many criticised how the map had become too big and cluttered; when the map was effectively reset in Chapter 2, it was much to the delight of fans around the world.

Epic would be wise to keep their additions to a minimum that only aim to improve the gameplay rather than overcomplicate it, though, after the extension to Season 1, the demand for new and different may be overwhelming for some players.

We recently covered some of the worst locations to drop in the new map featured in Chapter 2 Season 1. This included FN Radio, Crash Site and Base Camp Hotel - perhaps we will see adjustments to these locations, to ensure that they are more lucrative drop zone.

In contrast, we discussed which are the best locations to drop in the new map. This included Dirty Docks, Misty Meadows and Sweaty Sands - it could be these are adjusted to improve the flow of battle (being such a hot spot to drop) or adjust the amount of loot at these locations to ensure there is a better spread of players when dropping from the battle bus.

Weapons

Once again, new weapons will arrive in Season 2 and it's likely we'll see a few unvaulted.

For now, we've found dynamite – something that was essentially confirmed by Epic days before launch.

Rumours have been circulating that a new SMG will arrive in Season 2:

Before Chapter 2 started, we expressed how we would like to see the Tactical Assault Rifle, Hunting Rifle and Shadow Bomb return.

There are plenty of weapons that will be adjusted in the new patch as well.

With the more recent Winterfest event, where a new weapon was unvaulted for a day, Epic Games will have looked at how that weapon was received by the community and whether it now has a permanent place within the game.

These included:

  • Heavy Sniper
  • Double Barrel
  • Drum Gun
  • Flint-Knock Pistol
  • Stink Bombs
  • Infantry Rifle
  • Dual Pistols
  • Tac SMG
  • Shockwave Grenades
  • Drum Shotgun
  • Boom Bow
  • Hand Cannon
  • Suppressed SMG
  • Boogie Bomb

Chapter 2 had also recently introduced the ability to side-grade weapons of similar rarity, so long as you're able to locate a Weapon Upgrade Bench to do so. This allows you to optimize your loadout better, leaving things a little less to chance as you strive to eliminate the competition.

Skins & Events

A new season will mean new skins to reflect the current themes, as well as old ones resurfacing. Here's a glimpse at the Battle Pass skins, with many of the fresh ones offering two different versions split between the Shadow and Ghost spy agencies.

We've also had the "Oro" skin revealed thanks to Dataminers.

The skin comes with the description “Golden Treasure, an Eternal Obsession.” This leak is over a month old and with nothing yet surfacing, it's fair to say that the skin will arrive next season.

It makes sense as there are a lot of rumours that gold will play a big part in the theme for Season 2.

expand image

There are plenty of golden props that have also been found around the map, tying into Midas' appearance as a new character.

expand image

In past seasons, events have been tailored around big film releases such as the most recent Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker film and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

Two big film releases in the coming months are 007: No Time To Die and Marvel's Black Widow, so expect plenty of spy shenanigans with both.

One of the most influential factors on new skins is certainly holidays.

Within the time that Season 2 is expected to run, there are a number of holidays expected to produce skins for.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February, with a number of games opting to celebrate this holiday, it would be a surprise not to see Fortnite do the same.

One skin, in particular, that could make a return is the Wukong Skin.

Wukong is the Legendary skin from the Lunar New Year celebration, first releasing on the 18th February 2018. It is pretty unique as far as skins go, it's decked out with various golden armour pieces. Wukong is not an original character and is known as the "Monkey King" in Chinese legend. The skin didn't come with back bling at first but had the Royale Flags added to it later.

St Patricks Day

expand image

In the past, we have seen some festive skins for this holiday, of course, one being the Leprechaun.

The Sgt. Green Clover skin first appeared as part of St. Patrick's Day in 2018, making it one of the first skins to appear in Fortnite.

St Patrick's Day lands on the 17th March.

April Fools

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 Peely April Fools Skin
expand image

Perhaps with April to round out the season, we could see a few old skins reappear to celebrate this hilarious day.

Peely is an Epic Fortnite Outfit from the Banana Bunch set, released in February 2019. Peely was available via the Battle Pass during Season 8 and could be unlocked at Tier 47. Considering one of the most classic comical gags involves a banana peel, it could present an appealing chance to bring back this skin.

Battle Pass Details And Price

The Battle Pass is the same price as always.

You’ll be able to buy the Season 2 battle pass for 950 V-Bucks ($10) and the Battlebundle for 2800 V-Bucks ($30) to unlock the first 25 tiers. You’ll also be able to purchase individual tiers for 150 V-Bucks.

If you're not keen on sinking V-Bucks into the Battle Pass, we'd imagine Epic will still offer the popular free version, this offers diminishing returns in contrast to the packed Premium Battle Pass, but still packs in skins and other collectables.
