Will Battlefield 2042 Be Free-To-Play?

Much has been said about Battlefield 2042, with EA and DICE giving details on the highly-anticipated Battlefield Portal and the recently-revealed Hazard Zone, though many are still hoping we'll get some sort of Free-to-Play Battlefield 2042 multiplayer in the future.

Fans were really hoping that Hazard Zone would be the Free-to-Play Battlefield 2042 mode, especially since it's a more hardcore looter-based mode than the main game. However, EA and DICE have since stated that it's only part of the base game for now.

Will Battlefield 2042 Be Free-To-Play?

In a pre-reveal event of Battlefield 2042, the developers were asked outright if the game would have any kind of free-to-play, given how popular games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends.

Fans will be happy to know that DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson simply said “stay tuned,” indicating that there will be some sort of free-to-play version of Battlefield 2042, which is very interesting, to say the least.

Considering how a bunch of Special Editions for Battlefield 2042 are coming out with various pre-order bonuses, it's looking unlikely that we'll see a free-to-play Battlefield 2042.

However, there's always the chance it ends up on Xbox Game Pass and EA Play for 'free' if you're a subscriber.

Since this free-to-play version of Battlefield 2042 hasn’t been officially announced yet, we’re going to assume that this is just wishful thinking on our part, though that tease from the developers still has us talking.

Only time will tell if this actually happens but let’s hope that’s the case.

Battlefield 2042 comes out on November 19 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
