Original Story Follows

After months of relative silence from NetherRealm, Ed Boon last night promised that the team were not done just yet with Mortal Kombat 11.

Typically with the Chicago-based developer, we would expect to see work shifting towards a new game.

In the past, the studio has shifted between Mortal Kombat and Injustice on two-year cycles.

But it seems that 6 DLC characters and the massive Aftermath expansion - on top of smaller content drops, too - NetherRealm is not done yet with MK11.

The Aftermath expansion was good - but what's coming next?

The games creative director (and series co-creator) Ed Boon, announced the news on Twitter last night.

In fact, before we get to that juicy info you clicked on this story for, it's also worth giving the developers a round of applause.

That's because Boon also announced the game had reached 8 million sales since launch in 2019. Quite impressive.

New Mortal Kombat 11 DLC?

As we mentioned, Boon's primary reason for tweeting last night was to tell fans that the team were not done with the series just yet.

But he also outright stated more news on the game was coming this week, writing:

"After 8 million (and kounting) MK11 games sold we're not done yet. Stay tuned to see what's next for MK11 this week! #KombatKontinues"

It's fair to say, the first six DLC fighters were a success

Quite what the team could be announcing isn't clear.

With new consoles on the horizon, we would imagine that there will be news relating to next-gen enhancements - be it a free update or something else.

But on top of a rather obvious improvement to the game, there's a good chance we could see a confirmation (Konfirmation?) of more DLC characters being added to the game.

Since launch, there have been numerous leaks and datamined info.

To be fair, some of it hasn't quite materialised.

We all remember the rumours about Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead, right?

But there are still some promising details based on recent leaks, and teasers from Boon himself.

Chief among them right now seems to be evidence to suggest Mileena, Rain, and John Rambo could be added next.

Only time will tell, but we'll hopefully find out this week.
