Sons of the Forest Kelvin - How to give weapons and find again

Learning to use Kelvin in Sons of the Forest is a key skill. The game launched with massive hype surrounding it, and is already one of the biggest hits of 2023 already. If you have a bunch of friends to play it with, it can be a lot of fun.

The new game features companions, and one of the most important characters among them is Kelvin. When you meet Kelvin for the first time it is natural for you to want to give him weapons and other items and also retrieve them later. Here’s a quick guide to help you give Kelvin items and retrieve them during your Sons of the Forest playthrough in case you need them back.

How to give Kelvin weapons in Sons of the Forest

You cannot give weapons to Kelvin in Sons of the Forest. At the time of writing, the game does not allow you to arm Kelvin, but you can give him other items including pieces of clothing. While this might change in future patches, there is not much you can do about it right now.

How to give Kelvin items in Sons of the Forest

To give Kelvin items in Sons of the Forest, all you need to do is approach him. You will notice that a button prompt shows up. Hold E to open the interact menu, and you will be able to give him orders.

Scroll through all of the available options until you find the option to “Take Item”. This menu prompt sounds confusing at first, but it actually means that Kelvin will now be able to take items from you.

You can choose items from your inventory and give them to him. You can give him clothing ,which is something he needs. While he cannot receive weapons, he is also protected by the game. Kelvin cannot die to enemies in Sons of the Forest unless you kill him yourself, so you do not need to worry about his safety.

If you want your items back, simply go to the “Give to Me” menu via the interact prompt and you will be able to see all items you have given him. You can take anything that was gifted to Kelvin at any time, and have it back. Therefore, he's a very useful NPC if you want him to carry some extra items when you are running short on space.

Even though Kelvin cannot carry a weapon to protect you, he can follow you around and carry items for you. He can also get items for you like fish, sticks, rocks, logs, and other items. Players can also command him to build, clear out areas, and even take a break. If you want to find Kevin at any point, just give him a GPS tracker and you will be able to track him on your map.
