JULY 8 UPDATE - The new New GTA event week looks to have leaked Rockstar's DLC news. The GTA Online 2021 Summer Update releases July 20.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most successful games of all time, and that means we're unlikely to see GTA 6 for quite a while - such is the appeal of the game's online mode, GTA Online.

The sandbox Rockstar has created is only getting bigger with weekly updates, and this Summer will see yet another content drop as part of the 2021 Summer Update.

Here's everything we know.

July 7 - Rockstar Games has revealed what is coming in the Red Dead Online Blood Money Summer update this week. Could GTA Online be next? There's a good chance we'll see our first details revealed on Thursday July 8. Stay tuned!

July 6 - So there's still no word on the upcoming Summer Update for GTA Online. As we noted before, we had expected to see the update arrive towards the end of May or July. We're not sure Rockstar will keep us waiting until August. With that in mind, we're anticipating it could arrive sometime between July 15 and July 29. This is slightly later than we originally predicted, but still leaves plenty of time for fun until the new GTA Enhanced Edition arrives later this year.

What Is The GTA Online Summer Update?

GTA Online's summer content drops are bigger than the game's weekly updates, but last year's left players a little disappointed.

It added new vehicles to chase, including Yachts, but it wasn't until December's Grand Perico Heist that things really kicked off - perhaps due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, though, we've got a bit more of an idea of what to expect.

GTA Online Summer Update Release Date

The update has traditionally landed between the second half of May and the first half of July, and while last year's arrived in August, we'd expect it to return to the prior cadence.

With that in mind, while we don't have a date right now, it likely won't be long at all until we're enjoying it. We'll update this as we hear more.

GTA Online Summer Update Content

Rockstar's blog post unveiling the update makes specific mention of three modes that are getting some additions.

Deadline, the game's TRON-style racing mode, is getting seven new arenas.

Survival, the wave-based mode where players fight off enemies, will "expand to new locations throughout Los Santos and Blaine County".

Stunt Races, some of GTA Online's most popular content, are getting eight new events – these arrived on May 27th, so you can play these now.

As for the rest, Rockstar has clearly placed a focus on vehicle customisation and racing. The blog post confirms there are "new opportunities for fans of performance and customization upgrades to get together", with underground car meets also coming, as well as a demand for stolen vehicles.

The game is also adding fresh race types and a multi-part series of robbery missions.

We'll update this page as we hear more, of course, but for now, check out everything we know about the game's weekly update here.
