Rockstar had previously stated that the game will feature "a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever.”

GTA Online, the ever-popular multiplayer component of the game, will be available for free as a standalone for PS5 players for the first three months after the next-gen versions arrive.

In a new Newswire blog post, Rockstar promised further surprises for the online mode for those jumping into the new versions.

"As an added bonus — this summer's updates to GTA Online will include special benefits for players to take advantage of in these expanded and enhanced versions when they drop," the post reads.

"Plus, in honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the genre defining Grand Theft Auto III, we’ll have even more fun surprises to share — including some specifically for GTA Online players."

After GTA 5 hit 140 million units sold earlier this year, Rockstar's parent company Take-Two had said that remasters are not being discussed.
