Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds Tier List - Best Characters

A Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds tier list is set to be one of the best ways to keep your team crushing content. Knowing which characters rank above all the others will be something we'll figure out as time goes on and the game actually releases, but given it's based on a manga from the 80s that spawned countless other stories and cross-overs, we can make an educated guess based on the few characters we know will launch alongside it.

Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds is a lane-based JRPG mobile game based on the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga series. Running from 1989 all the way to 1996, this classic tale in the genre-defining franchise has since been adapted into various TV shows, movies, and games, with a 47-episode anime adaption launching just last year. It's a popular part of the larger franchise that has found its way into other Dragon Quest games over the years, and this newest mobile offering should help bring it to a new audience.

Before we dive into the Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds tier list, consider checking out and bookmarking our expansive tier list hub. There, you'll find character ranks for other mobile gacha games like Nier Reincarnation, AFK Arena, and KonoSuba Fantastic Days. And if you're into the idea of fan-made anime mashup games, we have tier lists for Roblox games like All Star Tower Defense and Shindo Life as well.

The current pre-release A Hero's Bonds tier list puts Avan and Dai at the top.

Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds Tier List

Tier Character
SDai, Avan
APopp, Maam, Hyunckel

The Hero's Bond tier list above is nowhere near complete as of September 27. As the game hasn't yet launched, we've pieced this together using the snippets of information available through the game's social platforms and trailers. Although a beta did take place earlier in the year, this was under embargo and details from the test are sparse and spotty at best. We'll update this tier list with additional characters as soon as the game releases.

How to Perform a Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds Reroll

  • Launch the game
  • Log in using a guest account
  • Skip the various cinematics and cutscenes
  • Complete the combat tutorial
  • Create your character and skip the next few scenes
  • Claim pre-registrtion rewards from the mailbox
  • Pull in the launch banner two times
  • If you didn't get a good result, go into Settings, Account, Erase Data
  • Log in using a Guest Account again and repeat the process.
  • Link the account to a service like Google Play or Apple when you're happy with your result.

Unlike a few other games, the Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds reroll process isn't blocked by a sketchy account deleted time limits or other nonsense.

It's a bit bland and repetitive, but learn to power through the combat tutorial and you'll get it done in no time. As for what to look out for and when to stop rerolling, that depends on your personal wants and needs: but we've outlined a few things to look out for below.

What Should I Aim For With a Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds Reroll

Equipment Character
Avan's SwordAvan
Knife of Papnica (Sun)Dai

Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds isn't your typical gacha game. Rather than roll for characters, you roll almost exclusively for weapons for the characters you unlock along the way. At the start of the game, at least. These weapons have the chance of coming with powerful abilities you can use in battle, and the right one will get you far.

With no five-star items to speak of and only two pulls available on a standard reroll, you can't be too picky when it comes to creating multiple accounts for the best launch rewards. Right now, you can't roll for much more. Aim for the four-star Knife of Papnica (Sun) for Dai or Avan's Sword for, you guessed it, Avan. Land both and you'll fly through the game for a little while.

When Do I Unlock Soul Hunts in Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bonds?

You'll unlock Soul Hunts and the Soul Crystals feature after clearing Chapter 1: Episode 9 - Marauders on the Beginner difficulty. It doesn't take long.

How Do We Rank Our Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero's Bond' Tier List?

Because the game hasn't officially launched yet, we can't make any calculated decisions with our A Hero's Bond tier list just yet. But what we can do is rank the known launch characters based on their performance and achievements in the original story from the 80s.

While most of the main cast grow in strength exponentially as the series goes on, characters like Dai and Avan use their power to defeat some of the story's most nefarious antagonists, landing them higher up the tier list in terms of their future power levels. We just expect more from them as the story progresses.

Support characters like Maam are a tad lower down purely because of their situational uses, whereas the main character of the new story, a hero you make yourself, isn't expected to top the rankings purely because you can net them for the hefty price of nought.
