Virtua Fighter 5 Is Reportedly Included In June's PlayStation Plus Line-Up

Update to this article: Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown Gets Officially Confirmed, Launches On June 1

As we reported, Sega was planning to hold a live esports stream for Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown on May 27th. Nevertheless, this could be only part of the news about Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, as Sega is expected to make an announcement during the stream about the game. Areajugones reports that Sega will offer Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown for free as a PlayStation Plus title.

According to Areajugones, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will be among the lineup of games coming to PS+ in June beside Star Wars: Squadrons for PlayStation 4 and Operation: Tango for PlayStation 5. There are some bold claims here, but they would not come across unwarranted. At the moment, no one involved in Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown has attempted to correct the Areajugones, so it may be more accurate than most think.

Usually, PlayStation Plus titles become available on the first Tuesday of every month, so we'll probably be able to play Ultimate Showdown on June 1st. Because Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will be marketed as an Esports title, this makes sense. Considering there are well over 100 million PS4s spread throughout the world right now, Sega may want the game to be in as many tournaments as possible.

The fact that Areajugones does appears to have a positive record of correctly reporting PS+ games early should not be taken as gospel for the time being, though. Sega will officially announce Ultimate Showdown on Thursday, May 27th. In the coming days, we'll learn more about the title.

Come back on May 27th to watch the reveal in this video.

The only version of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown rated so far is the PlayStation 4 version, so many of us expect it to be a PlayStation exclusive. This may be a way to convince Sony to promote Sega's game. Sony has done a lot to market other free games with PlayStation Plus like Rocket League and Fall Guys, which have both been huge successes.

Even though this has been a minigame in most recent Yakuza games, this will be the first new Virtua Fighter game since 2012, so many fans are eager to learn more. As we know more, we will update you, but the live event on May 27th should give us more information.
