September 30, 2023: Find out whether the game features a Survival Mode!

Hardened RPG players love a challenge, which is why questions are arising around Survival mode in Starfield. This beloved feature from Fallout 4 and Skyrim ramps up the difficulty and makes mechanics like nourishment and sleep incredibly important. Those looking ahead to Starfield have just one simple question: will Survival mode make a return?

In this guide, we'll look at everything we know so far about Survival mode in Starfield. Now that a lot of players are finally playing the game, we've confirmed whether there will be a Survival Mode to keep you informed!

If there is a survival mode, you'll definitely want a Starfield tank build to soak up damage and deal maximum punishment to your enemies. After all, with plenty of space pirates to defeat, you'll need plenty of strategy to heal and survive. All of this info and a galaxy's worth of others can be found in our Starfield hub!

Does Starfield have Survival mode?

As it stands, Starfield does not have a Survival mode.

As such, that means you probably won't be able to play through Starfield with Survival features enabled. In previous Bethesda games, this tends to involve hunger, the need to sleep, and much tougher combat, where bullets do an awful lot more damage.

Sadly, this isn't in Starfield yet, so we'll have to wait and see whether it's added in the future. Until then, you'll have a slightly easier time blasting through Starfield, without those added RPG features.

Will Survival mode be added to Starfield?

Fortunately, we think there's a very good chance of Survival mode arriving in Starfield later down the line. Since it featured as a Creator Club mod in Skyrim and then a baked-in part of Fallout 4, it's hugely unlikely that we won't see it at some point in Starfield.

The likelihood is that Starfield's Survival mode will be added on in a few months' time. In the case of Fallout 4, it was added around six months after the game launched. This gave players the time to get familiar with the game, its map, and its mechanics, giving them the best preparation for survival. This could work very similarly in Starfield.

The alternative could be that Survival mode in Starfield is added as a New Game Plus feature. We already know that NG+ is a feature in the game, and most of what it entails, but Bethesda may have left this part out to keep us on our toes. It could well be a loop straight into Survival mode after you complete Starfield for the first time, but that remains to be seen.
