Unlocking spells in Hogwarts Legacy is a lot of fun, and you can learn all of the core spells by visiting your professors and completing their assignments. Wingarium Leviosa is one of the most recognisable spells in the Harry Potter universe, and you get to use the spell in-game to complete puzzles and take on enemies. Therefore, this is how to get Wingardium Leviosa in Hogwarts Legacy.
To unlock Wingardium Leviosa, you need to complete Professor Garlick’s first Assignment. This guide will help you complete the quest and unlock the iconic spell.

Hogwarts Legacy Wingardium Leviosa quest items
To unlock Wingardium Leviosa, you need to progress through the main quest first. Once you complete In the Shadows of the Estate, you can take on Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1 and unlock the spell. Here’s what you need to do in the Assignment:
- Find a Venomous Tentacula and use it in combat
- Obtain a Mandrake and defeat multiple foes at the same time
- Participate in the Herbology class
The first thing you need to do is find a Venomous Tentacula. You can travel to Dogweed and Deathcap, a shop that houses all kinds of seeds and plants. Head to the shop and talk to Beatrice Green, who is the owner of the shop. You will be able to purchase a Venomous Tentacula for 600 Galleons. You can also buy the seed and grow your own Tentacula, but it will cost you over 1,000 Galleons in the short term if you want just one Tentacula.
Beatrice also sells the Mandrake plant you need for the quest, so be sure to pick one up for 500 Galleons. Just like the Tentacula, you can also buy Mandrake seeds, but it is going to cost you 800 Galleons. Buy both products directly instead of their seeds if you want to save some Galleons.
Once you have both quest items, toss the Venomous Tentacula into the Room of Requirement, and the first task of the Assignment will be complete. Then you need to use the Mandrake in combat. We recommend going to the fast travel point at Jackdaw’s Tomb, where you will notice a few enemies near the landing spot. Start a battle with the Mandrake plant and you will be able to stun all nearby enemies, completing the second part of the quest.
Head back to Hogwarts and attend Professor Garlick’s class after completing the first two tasks and you will be greeted with a cutscene. This will complete the third task in the assignment, meaning all you need to do is talk to her again to let her know that you have completed the assignment. You will then gain access to the Wingardium Leviosa spell.
