While many GTA Online players have spent far too much time grinding away on land in quests to become the richest business mogul or simply to dominate the tennis minigame, many of the game’s underwater areas have seen relatively little foot traffic over the years.

However, thanks to updates, those who wish to become masters of the ocean now have more options than ever when it comes to exploring these uncharted depths, with vehicles like the Avisa and the Toreador both providing a chance for amphibious adventures.

One player on Reddit has recently engaged in such an exploit, though they’ve ducked into a cave to hide from something and no one can quite work out what it is.

Ever wondered what lurks in San Andreas’ aquatic depths?

The thread on this strange event in the GTA Online subreddit began with a post from the player themselves, user Caryelah, who shared a clip of them exploring an obscure undersea nook, captioning it: “Underwater cave. A great hiding place.”

Some of their GTA peers were confused as to what exactly you’d have to hide from in the San Andreas seas, with user raaustin777 asking: “Hide from what? The one other person in the water?”.

User JXHNWlCK provided a possible answer to this query, saying: “I like hiding from the orbital cannon under those whenever I get the chance”, leading PotatoBomb69 to enquire: “How much are you being hit by the orbital cannon that you need this??”

Meanwhile, user AutumnAscending suggested that having some unique sunken threats instead of interstellar ones might be nice, saying: “They need to add something fun down there. After you view the wrecks it's kinda boring. They need to add like some dumb squid or megalodon event.”

Others also commented on the idea of GTA’s oceans suffering from untapped potential, with user Arokricsi remarking: “my god we found someone using the submarine” and aria3180 musing: “The poor people who spent so much time developing the ocean in this game. (It’s) never even appreciated. I wish the water was more clear.”

User Derbla-99 had a different idea, saying: “I don't understand why they never made a submarine PvP game mode”, leading Severe-Ad9174 to respond: “I’ve had one submarine fight, toreador vs toreador and it was epic, definitely more fun than air combat.”
