Between a new GTA Online update and some rumoured details about GTA 6 being unveiled in rapid succession, last week was a pretty hectic time to be a GTA fan.

Many of these gun-toting individuals took a break from grinding heists, battling with griefers and buying all of the new content to give their views on the fresh info regarding the series’ next entry included in a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

Now, however, some of them have been forced back to the social media pulpit, as some extra details regarding the original plans for the game have emerged.

Fans React To Ambitious Outline For GTA 6

In the Bloomberg report, Schreier states that the next GTA game’s original plans were: “for it to be more vast than any Grand Theft Auto game to date.”

In line with this, early plans included: “territories modelled after large swaths of North and South America”, which were then scaled back to the currently reported setting of “a fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas.”

In terms of what these territories might have looked like, Axios Gaming’s Stephen Totilo has since reported that, according to a source, at least one interaction of these early plans would have seen the game take place across three different cities, though it isn’t clear exactly which cities these would have been.

Also included in Totilo’s report is the suggestion that this particular version of the game would have included four playable protagonists, though this has also since been slimmed down to the Bonnie and Clyde-inspired pair outlined in Schreier’s report.

These fresh revelations regarding the game we might’ve gotten have proved controversial among GTA fans in the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours.

Several users suggested that having four protagonists might be a little too many, with Zombienerd300 saying: “even three felt like too much (and) only worked because the characters themselves worked” and DeeDee_GigaDooDoo adding that having that number of protagonists made GTA V’s story feel less “tight” than previous games.

On the other hand, the idea of the game taking place across three cities was viewed a little more positively, with many hoping that the cut land masses might end up being included in the game’s eventual DLC.

Regardless of how you’d have felt about having more protagonists and cities than you can shake a stick at, make sure to follow us for more GTA Online and GTA 6 updates as new content is released.
