While they may not have gotten the massive expansion announcement they wanted out of last week’s Game Awards, Elden Ring players have still had new content to dig into, with the long-awaited Colosseum DLC providing a fresh challenge for those who consider themselves PvP masters.

However, for those who haven’t already mastered the battle arena using a dance pad or cosplay build and abandoned it in favour of trying to beat the game on two screens at once, it seems that the gladiatorial stage is proving a bit tough at times.

This looks to be what’s inspired some players to start discussing which armaments and abilities they might ban from battles if they were given authority over the arena.

Have you encountered any items or strategies that are ruining your Elden Ring Colosseum experience?

Their ideas form a thread on the subreddit r/eldenring, which began with a post from user mulatto_malik, who kicked things off by asking: “You can remove one weapon/spell from the colosseum, what’s it gonna be?”

Naturally, a deluge of suggestions came in response, some of which were a bit more abstract, such as user thrwawayaftrreading, who said that in order to combat spawn camping: “I'd remove the ability to snipe someone the second they spawn with spells. Just give the wave that goes out a Carian retaliation effect for a second or just let me have the invulnerability for at least one button pressed.”

Of the weapons singled out, spears seemed to earn the majority of the ire, with user Diligent_Eggplant152 outlining how wary they are of foes wielding the Bolt of Gransax and 00Wridacule asking: “Was using two spears a thing in PvP before the colosseum? It feels like a tactic for the sole purpose of being cheap.”

Other killing implements to earn honourable mentions included the Naginata, with user Magic_Oddball declaring: “they aren’t fun to fight at all”, dual-wielded lances and the coded sword, which JaggedSabre claimed: “feel like they have built-in network delay every time.”

Meanwhile, on the magic front, user mrwobblyshark nominated the Honed Bolt incantation, lamenting their inability to evade it.

On the other hand, user orangconcretepowder declared: “Nothing. They can all be made pretty much useless with the proper preparations, people just expect to be able to have one build that counters everything else in the game, which is completely unreasonable.”
