Ever since the iconic Verdansk map disappeared from Call of Duty, players loading into Warzone have regularly asked Activision to reintroduce the map into the battle royale.

With the launch of Modern Warfare 3 not too far away, Sledgehammer Games has already started sharing a wealth of information about aspects of the game, including its single-player campaign and the Tac Stance mechanic that's on its way to multiplayer.

While many players have been hoping Verdansk would return to Warzone, a recent reveal trailer has confirmed it will feature in a different capacity in the next Call of Duty release.

Verdansk is returning to Call of Duty

The Modern Warfare 3 gameplay trailer which premiered during Gamescom Opening Night Live showcased a campaign mission which featured a group of soldiers attempting to break into Verdansk's prison in a bid to rescue a prisoner.

Shortly after the trailer went live, a blog post confirmed Verdansk is officially back in the Call of Duty universe.

The blog reads: "While familiar, Verdansk will be seen from a new perspective in Modern Warfare 3's campaign: in the year 2023, a new threat completely locked down the capital of Kastovia."

There are many players looking forward to exploring a new iteration of Verdansk. One commented: "Epic that Verdansk is coming back." On the other hand, many are puzzled by its reappearance after an in-game event destroyed the map in its entirety, with one declaring: "I'm so confused about the timelines of Verdansk and the story."

In addition to the prison, Verdansk's stadium features in trailers, while an iconic villain is also making their return to the franchise.

Despite Verdansk reappearing in the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, it's unclear if Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software plan on adding the map into Warzone once again.

For now, the only way to return to Verdansk will be by playing through the MW3 campaign, which is available ahead of launch thanks to an early access period.
