The Call of Duty series has featured a wealth of memorable heroes and villains to this point. Ranging from the enigmatic Ghost, to the more sinister General Shepherd, a handful have managed to withstand the test of time heading towards the launch of Modern Warfare 3.

Following the official reveal of 2023's release, players were quick to share their hopes for this next Modern Warfare title. Ahead of an in-game event, Activision continues to share more information surrounding various aspects of the sequel to 2022's Modern Warfare 2.

The latest intel from Call of Duty's publisher has confirmed the return of an iconic villain, who is no stranger to battling Captain Price and the rest of Task Force 141.

As the focus switches towards the launch of the new game, a YouTube video is set to reveal that Makarov is on his way back as part of the Modern Warfare 3 storyline.

Vladimir Makarov is the main antagonist of the original Modern Warfare trilogy and instigates the infamous 'No Russian' mission in 2009's Modern Warfare 2.

Judging by the reaction to the video ahead of its initial premiere, there's plenty of excitement among players surrounding Makarov's return. "I can't wait any longer," one has declared.

Thankfully, it won't be long until players find out more about Makarov. The character reveal trailer above is bound to feature a closer look at his background and some clues surrounding his next sinister moves to stop the 141 in their tracks.

The initial Modern Warfare 3 teaser showcased a shadow of Makarov appearing alongside a badge resembling a snake with its mouth wide open. Based on Call of Duty lore, there's a high chance Makarov will feature as the leader of the Konni Group, which has recently arrived in Al Mazrah, coinciding with the in-game event taking place soon.
