As one of the largest NFT projects out there, many new players are embarking on their Axie Infinity journey for the first time, but how much does it cost to start playing?
A major challenge NFT games face is grappling with the entrance barriers. While there are free NFT games available, the majority require at least some initial investment from players, including Axie Infinity.
Here’s how much you’ll need to get started in the world of Lunacian.
How Much Does It Cost To Play Axie Infinity?
To play Axie Infinity’s mini-games and start earning Smooth Love Potions (SLP), you will need a team of three Axies.
At the lowest, some Axie are currently listed on the Marketplace for 0.004 ETH – just over $10. This means you could put together a starting team for under $50, if you only buy these NFTs. However, many veterans would warn against investing in the ‘floor Axie’, as they are unlikely to aid your progression much.
Instead, players recommend forming a more balanced team that will require you to spend more on Axies.
As reported by DappRadar on September 10, the average Axie NFT price was $355. While this average cost will have since fluctuated, we can use it as a starting point. At this price, it will cost $1065 to form an average Axie Infinity team.
Prices will continue to differ as new players enter and as Sky Mavis, the game’s developers, change the in-game economics.
However, there is another way to play Axie Infinity that does not cost as much.
Axie Infinity Scholarships
Axie Infinity Scholarships are an unofficial scheme where veteran players will lend their Axie to others who may be unable to afford this initial investment.
In return, the initial holder – also known as a ‘manager’ – will take a cut of the scholar’s SLP earnings.
As this is not affiliated with Sky Mavis, it is vital for both managers and scholars to do their due diligence and research before starting the scholarship, as a significant amount of trust is needed.
Interest in Axie Infinity remains high, meaning the demand for scholarships outweighs the supply. So this may not be the easiest method to get into Axie Infinity, either.
