Black Ops Cold War will arrive later this year, but fans might not be able to pull off one of the Call of Duty franchise's signature moves.

According to a screenshot taken from the Black Ops multiplayer reveal, it looks as though "Drop Shots" could be going away.

Drop Shots Not Possible In Black Ops Cold War?

As spotted by Twitter user @BKTOOR, it looks as though some weapons in this year's game will require an attachment to be able to be fired while prone.

The equipped handle in the screenshot, being used with the KRIG 6 weapon, suggests that aiming while prone will be tied to that specific part.

As has become popular in Call of Duty over the last few years, "drop shots" are when players either go prone or crouch to avoid incoming damage, before returning fire.

Players can even jump into a prone position to minimise the chances of being hit.

While players might not be able to aim down the sights in a prone position, it could be that firing from the hip becomes the best way to grab a kill.

Almost as much of a staple of the franchise as quick-scoping and trick shots, its removal could suggest that Treyarch is working towards a more realistic title.

That said, the developer hasn't been afraid to try new things in the past.

In Black Ops 4, players would no longer automatically regenerate health, and would instead need to manually heal - something that was then removed in Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare.

Only time will tell what other surprises are in store for CoD fans as we approach launch.
