Is Omen Good in Valorant?

Omen belongs to the Controller class in-game and has a dark backstory, referenced to by the voice lines of other characters. His abilities revolve around taking control of specific areas at a site, and his teleportation abilities allow him to pop up at off angles to surprise enemies. Similarly, Omen becomes a key instrument in blocking the enemy's vision during defensive rounds.

In the Controller class, Omen is only considered second to Astra in terms of strength, and has a high pick-rate because of this. He cannot be played immediately by new players, however, and must be unlocked first.

Is Omen Good for Beginners?

Omen may not be a great Agent to use if you are new to Valorant, especially because of his diverse abilities. He is an efficient Controller on the attack, as he provides ample cover for the entry rush; his regenerating 'smokes' (smoke clouds) allow teammates to enter spike sites unseen. Similarly, his Paranoia ability is a great tool for blinding enemies and catch them off guard at choke points.

Omen is the best Agent for mechanically skilled players with amazing reflexes. His abilities revolve around quick decision-making, and for that players will need a good idea about the layout of maps along with precise aim. He works particularly well with an organized and communicative team.

Given his unpredictable abilities, it may be worth playing a slower-paced style and using the Operator sniper rifle as a beginner — dictating the game rather than brawling it out with others.

How To Play As Omen — Abilities & Skills

Here are Omen's abilities:

Shrouded Step - Omen equips a shrouded step ability and see its range indicator. FIRE to begin a brief channel, then teleport to the marked location.

Paranoia - Omen equips a blinding orb. FIRE to throw it forward, briefly reducing the vision range and deafening all players it touches. This projectile can pass through walls.

Dark Cover - Omen equips a shadow orb, entering a phased world to place and target the orbs. PRESS again to throw the shadow orb to the marked location, creating a long-lasting shadow sphere that blocks vision. HOLD FIRE while targeting to move the marker further away. HOLD SECONDARY FIRE while targeting to move the marker closer. PRESS RELOAD to toggle normal targeting view.

Ultimate : From the Shadows - Omen equips a tactical map. Fire to begin teleporting to any selected location. While teleporting, Omen will appear as a Shade that can be destroyed by an enemy to cancel his teleport, or press EQUIP for Omen to cancel his teleport.

Omen's Best Weapons

The best weapons to select for any Agent in Valorant will depend on their role and the player's play style.

So if you're aggressively pushing sites with Omen for entry, then these weapons will be the best choice.

  • Ghost
  • Stinger
  • Spectre
  • Phantom
  • Frenzy
  • Sheriff
  • Bulldog

In case you are hanging back and adopting a passive play style with Omen, then work your way around with the following weapons:

  • Marshall
  • Guardian
  • Vandal
  • Odin
  • Operator

Tips for Playing Omen in Valorant

Omen's abilities allow him to throw one-way smokes on every map in Valorant. His smokes are considered the best in the game, second to only Astra. Omen players can also choose to toggle between the shadow view and real map view to place their smokes appropriately. Additionally, hiding inside Omen's smokes is a great trick during defensive rounds too. This trick will always guarantee a free kill, but players should use this sparingly, to avoid being predictable.

Similarly, Omen's Shrouded Step and Paranoia are two efficient abilities that can confuse opponents. The only rule players have to follow here would be to try to avoid predictability. While his teleport game may not be as strong as Yoru, Omen can still play mind games on enemies with fake Shrouded Steps. This technique is often used when players are in clutch situations.

With all of this in mind, it's best to adopt a passive play style with Omen if you are a beginner in Valorant. Create opportunities for teammates with precise smokes and Paranoia placement, and follow up with unpredictable Shrouded Steps. When you're accustomed to Omen's abilities, you can begin to get more creative and, hopefully, frag out.

Finally, Omen's ultimate ability allows him to teleport to any location on the map. While teleporting, Omen will appear as a shadow for a short animation that can be destroyed by enemies. Omen can then choose to cancel his teleport and return to the initial position if needed. While some consider this to be a weak ultimate ability, skilled players thrive off Omen's ultimate. The trick to using an ability is to combine it with Omen's other abilities; for example, throwing a smoke at an area before teleporting there. Similarly, Omen players can also fake a teleport and gather information around a site. The only factor that players need to avoid is predictability, as a predictable Omen is easiest to hunt.

Omen's Weaknesses

There are several weaknesses for a Controller Agent like Omen, especially with a set of abilities that do not inflict any damage. However, players can overcome this.

The fundamental problem with Omen's Shrouded Step and his ultimate ability is that it makes considerable noise, which alarms opponents. Similarly, more skilled opponents can predict an Omen's position based on his teleport sound cue.

Additionally, the fact that Omen cannot shoot while using Shrouded Step also makes him vulnerable to opponents. Most often, opponents who like to peek or rush entry points from off angles will get that easy kill on an Omen while he is using his abilities, so Omen players must take caution with this. Similarly, Omen has to be static while placing his smokes. This, again, makes him exceedingly vulnerable, especially if teammates have died. The biggest counter players can have for an opponent Omen would be to read their play for a few rounds, thus, it is key for an Omen player to be unpredictable if they wish to succeed.

If facing an Omen, make a mental note of all the spots he smokes, and all the angles he shoots from. Knowing everything about the opponent Omen's Shrouded Step location and smoke spots will help players predict his moves and secure a win.
