Valheim: How To Increase Inventory Size and Carry More


One of the biggest challenges in any survival sim is the battle with inventory management. Valheim is no different, limiting the amount of spoils and treasures the player can carry.

It’s an understandable limitation, as a limitless inventory would make your Viking unnecessarily overpowered right from the off. Imagine being able to endlessly farm metals, wood and other materials? You’d breeze your way through purgatory with ease.

While you’re never going to have an endless inventory, there is a way to increase the total amount of weight you can carry in Valheim, meaning you can carry more materials while pillaging your way across the world.

Increasing Inventory Size

To increase your inventory size, you will need to visit the Haldor who is currently the only merchant in the game. Finding him isn’t a simple process though, as the procedurally-generated nature of Valheim’s world means he’s never truly pinned down. Fortunately, he will always be in the Black Forest area of the map, you just need to find him within there, which can be difficult sometimes.

Haldor is certainly worth the hard work though, as he sells several unique items, and the specific item we’re seeking. Once you’ve found Haldor, you’ll want to buy the Megingjord. At 950 coins, it’s not a cheap purchase, but it drastically increases the amount you can carry. With the Megingjord equipped, you’ll have an additional 150 added to your inventory size, giving you the ability to carry a lot more when farming materials.

There are a few tricks you can use to obtain more gold, (Link this to gold guide) but one of the easiest methods is farming high-value items before finding Haldor. Keep your eyes peeled for the list of objects below, as they should make buying the Megingjord much less of a pain on your pouch.

  • Amber - 5 gold
  • Amber Pearl - 10 gold
  • Ruby - 10 gold

With your inventory size expanded, it’s time to get out there and explore the world of Valheim. Just make sure you don’t die with a full inventory, Viking.
