Valheim Elder Walkthrough : Summoning Elder, Rewards and Tips

If you've beaten a boss in Valheim you'll know just how tricky it can be. The second boss is Elder, a mammoth tree looking enemy. This is a tough fight, so you'll want to go in prepared. To help you win, we've put together this Valheim Elder guide. We'll take a look at summoning Elder, how to beat them and the rewards you'll get for doing so.

Valheim: How to Summon Elder With Ancient Seeds

To summon the Elder you'll need some Ancient Seeds to sacrifice. You can get a hold of them by destroying Greydwarf Spawners. They can be identified as a pile of bones with purple smoke. Be prepared as they aren't easy to find and can be a task to destroy. As you explore the Black Forest, keep an eye out for Greydwarves, if you're seeing a lot of them a spawner is likely nearby.

Just follow whichever direction they are coming from and it should lead you to their spawn. Greydwarf Shamans and Greydwarf Brutes can drop Ancient Seeds, although destroying spawners will give you more. Overall you need 3 seeds.

What To Take Into the Fight

The Elder is best to take on with a group, it's possible to take down alone but will take many deaths to learn his moves. Make sure to bring along some food buffs with you too. Building a base nearby would be useful too so you can get back into the action if you die. You'll have to set your respawn point to this base temporarily. Bring along spare weapons in case yours break!

Start the Fight

You can find the Elder's location through reading a runestone which can be found in a fort on the main island. This runestone will appear at random but the forts will contain stone walls, broken stairs and skeletons. There are also multiple locations you can find the runestone. The Elder will likely be on a separate island from the main one. Once at the altar use the 3 Ancient Seeds to summon him.

How To Beat Elder

There are 3 main moves to bear in mind when fighting the Elder. He will use his right hand to summon some roots from the ground, steer clear of them. His second attack is a long-ranged cone-shaped attack. The last attack is a stomp to the closest player. Its radius isn't too big so should be easy to dodge. Overall you should constantly have one player kiting the Elder around and other players long-range attacks. If you're going solo it will more so be a case of dodging attacks squeezing in hits when you can.

Rewards

When you defeat the Elder you'll get his trophy and swamp keys. Place the trophy on the altar and you'll get 5 minute buff toward cutting down trees. The skill has a 20-minute cooldown. The swamp key can be used on the swamp island opening a crypt containing more items.
