Pokémon GO Shinies: New Shinies for the Season of Mischief

Pokémon GO shinies are some of the rarest creatures in Niantic’s mobile game, but at this point it’s difficult to know exactly which shinies are live in the game and which haven’t been released yet.

Like in any Pokémon game, those sparkly Pokémon are some of the most sought-after monsters in Pokémon GO. Shinies are just like regular Pokémon except for their colour, so the only benefit is to flex for your friends, when you’re holding gyms, or when you’re tackling a particularly troublesome Pokémon GO raid boss.

Shiny Pokémon are a rare encounter, but there are a few ways to increase the chances of bumping into them. So, without further ado, here are the newest shinies in the game, as well as some tips on how to catch ‘em all.

These Pokémon are available in raids, in the wild, and in field research tasks.

What New Pokémon GO New Shinies Will Appear in the Season of Mischief?

Pokémon GO's Season of Mischief has kicked off, and already it has introduced a (kind of new) shiny. Shiny Ditto was formerly only available through one Special Research, but now can appear in the wild and as your Research Breakthrough encounter. Make sure you're up to date with the new Ditto disguises in Pokémon GO so you don't miss the chance of grabbing the transforming blob.

Oshawott Community Day will also see the launch of shiny Oshawott, and with Inkay and Furfrou on their way in future events, there might be more shinies to catch before the season is out.

Pokémon GO New Shinies: Ultra Unlock

The Ultra Unlock events are live, and have brought a host of cool new shinies with them! Here are the new shiny Pokémon for the Ultra Unlock events:

  • Dialga (Part 1 only)
  • Palkia (Part 2 only)
  • Unown U
  • Cranidos
  • Shieldon
  • Heracross (Part 2 only)
  • Galarian Farfetch'd

Heracross is usually a regional Pokémon only available in South America, so this is the perfect opportunity to fill out your Pokédex (and your shiny 'dex, if you're lucky). Dialga, Palkia, and Heracross will only be available in raids, but the other Pokémon will be available in raids and wild encounters. Cranidos and Shieldon will also be available in 7km eggs.

Check out our complete guide to the Pokémon GO Ultra Unlock events to make sure you don't miss out.

How To Get Pokémon GO Shinies

Players have a roughly one in 400 chance to encounter a shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO, which is really good odds in comparison to the main series games. However, there are opportunities to get even better odds that occur regularly.

The best opportunities are during Community Days, which focus on a single Pokémon. Community Days vastly increase the shiny odds and also offer an exclusive move for evolving the featured Pokémon.

If you want an experience with shiny odds boosted for more than one Pokémon, your best bet is GO Fest or the Safari Zone events that occur irregularly. As you’ve read above, Pokémon GO Fest 2021 will offer boosted odds on seven new shinies, as well as boosting everything else that’s appearing in the wild.

We’re not sure if the raid bosses will have boosted shiny odds just yet, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed so we can fill out our shiny ‘dex with some more off-colour legendaries.

Some Special Research also offers guaranteed shinies as a reward. The All-in-one 151 Special Research guarantees a shiny Mew as a reward, for instance, and the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto Special Research rewarded players with a shiny Ditto. Sadly, these tasks are no longer available (unless you claimed them at the time), but we expect more to come, perhaps starting with Meloetta in the Pokémon GO Fest 2021 Special Research.

Is Shiny Meltan Currently Available?

Shiny Meltan is currently not available in Pokémon GO.

Shiny Meltan is a special case. The only Pokémon to ever be released in Pokémon GO rather than a main series game, you need to transfer Pokémon to Pokémon Let’s Go or Pokémon Home in order to encounter it. You’ll get an Incense-like Mystery Box that lures Meltan to you for an hour.

However, shiny Meltan is not always available, and it is usually turned on during special events. It was last available during the Pokémon GO Anniversary Event, but was removed on July 15.

That’s everything we know about Pokémon GO shinies, but check back for the latest releases and event-exclusive shinies.
