It's bound to happen. Whether coming face to face with a particularly hostile ghost or simply being unlucky, sometimes players die in Phasmophobia. While roaming the afterlife, it's a little difficult to know what to do while other players finish up besides aimlessly wandering, but that's where we step in.

In this guide, we've explained exactly what you can (and can't do) while dead in Phasmophobia.

What Happens When You're Dead

When a player ends up unfortunately gripped by the ghost during the Hunting Phase in Phasmophobia, it's game over for them... for the most part. All their items will be dropped on the floor, making them free game for other players to use. Then, they will be condemned to wander the afterlife.

While dead, the player will be able to roam the map still and observe other players through a white-tinted fog. However, they will not be able to communicate with the living players even though they can still hear them. They can make their presence known by picking up and throwing items from the location, such as kitchen utensils and teddy bears.

When a player dies in Phasmophobia, not all is lost. They can still be a key component in assisting, or messing with, living players. If players are using a third-party programme, such as Discord, the dead player can communicate with the other players to help them, given that they can now see much further and still find evidence. They just can't interact with it.

Below, we have listed a handful of things that dead players can do:

  • Mess with the remaining players - They can pick up items from around the map, such as plates or knives, and throw them around to make the living players believe something ghostly is happening. Alternatively, dead players can also trigger any Motion Sensors placed around the map.
  • Finish filling out the Journal - If the ghost type is discovered or the dead player has a suspicion of the type, they can still fill out their Journal with whichever type of ghost they think killed them. If they're correct, they will still get a reward for this. This, and messing with remaining players, is about all a dead player can do without Discord or a similar programme.
  • Find extra evidence - This requires a programme like Discord to let the remaining players know. While dead, a player can still see Bone Evidence, Ghost Writing and Dirty Water in sinks. If they find this, they can let fellow players know so that they can snap a picture of it.
  • Help players avoid the ghost - The ghost will obviously not target or interact with the dead player, but they can still see it. With this in mind and with the help of Discord, the dead player can help living players to evade the ghost by observing it during its Hunting Phase and pointing out where they should run or hide.

This is what a player can do during Phasmophobia after having become a victim to the ghost. We admit it's not much, but Kinetic Games are bound to add more for dead players to do in the future. We'll be sure to update this page when they do! In the meantime, dead players can peruse our guide on ghost types, behaviour and evidence to try and work out who killed them.
