The gods are shining on us today as a Quake 6 tease has been discovered by fans rewatching the most recent Xbox Developer Direct.

Last week, Xbox used the direct to show off the first ever gameplay of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as well as reveal the Hellblade 2 release date, and show off new Avowed gameplay.

However, fans also noticed that Indiana Jones developer MachineGames literally revealed the next Quake game during its segment. On a whiteboard in the video, Quake 6 can clearly be seen alongside the series’ iconic logo.

Shared on the official Quake subreddit, an image of the whiteboard alongside puzzle plans for the upcoming Indiana Jones game. As expected, the long-ignored Quake fanbase has lost its mind at the tease.

“That’s either real or deliberate to screw with us. It can’t be both or neither,” said one fan on the subreddit. “Is this real? Don't fk with me!!” said another.

MachineGames previously rebooted the Wolfenstein series with Wolfenstein: The New Order and its sequel The New Colossus. While fans have been waiting for the end of the trilogy, Quake fans have been waiting for a true sequel for many years.

The last official Quake game was Quake Champions, the fifth game in the series. A free-to-play hero shooter, Quake Champions was extremely fun, but failed to grab gamers’ attention. If a true sequel was to be released, returning to the original games’ single-player roots would be a wise move.

Furthermore, MachineGames has already worked on Quake in the past. Between Wolfenstein and Indiana Jones, the studio made two expansions for the first game’s remaster — Dimension of the Past and Dimension of the Machine — as well as a full additional campaign for the Quake 2 remaster.

With Id Software taking care of Doom, MachineGames could bring back Quake with astounding quality. Unfortunately, there’s no proposed release date for MachineGames’ Quake 6.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle releases later in 2024 for Xbox Series and PC.
