Arkane and Wolfenstein anthologies coming to Xbox Series


A bunch of beloved Bethesda titles have been rated for the Xbox Series X and Series S, according to new rating summaries from the ESRB.

IGN reported on the ratings early Tuesday morning.

Bethesda released digital versions of the Arkane Anniversary Collection and Wolfenstein: Alt History Collection on Xbox One back in August and June, respectively.

The Arkane Anniversary Collection includes Dishonored: Definitive Edition, Dishonored 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and Prey. Wolfenstein: Alt History Collection features all four MachineGames Wolfenstein titles — The New Order, The Old Blood, The New Colossus, and Youngblood.

Notably, the two anthologies did not launch on PlayStation 4 over the summer. This might have been an early consequence of Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher and its parent company, ZeniMax Media, which was announced last month.

So there’s a good chance these next-gen rereleases will be exclusive to the Xbox Series. Phil Spencer told Bloomberg in September that Microsoft properties will hit “other consoles on a case-by-case basis.”

Two upcoming Bethesda titles, Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo, will honor pre-existing deals to launch as PlayStation “timed console exclusives.” But we can expect to see the majority of Bethesda games hitting Microsoft platforms — meaning Game Pass, PC, and Xbox — in the near future.

Bethesda and Microsoft have had a strong working relationship since before the launch of the original Xbox in 2001, with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind finding commercial and critical success on the console.

Had Morrowind not been such a hit, games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim would probably not exist, and the Xbox was a large factor in growing Bethesda’s audience at the turn of the millennium.
