Halo Infinite: Invasion, Firefight And Extraction Game Modes NEED To Return In Halo 6

Halo Infinite has had some fantastic game modes in the past and there are many we would like to see return including Invasion, Firefight and Extraction. Hopefully we can see these game modes in the Halo Infinite Beta, as well as explore others that are new and old, on a host of fantastic Halo Infinite maps.

Some of Halo's best game modes have previously come as both accidents (Grifball) and the result of community creations (Castle Wars) - every game has always had a standout mode that has retain the community interest. While Halo 5 was heavy on the new modes, such as Breakout and Warzone, some of the older beloved game modes were forgotten. Here are three game modes that should make a triumphant return in Halo: Infinite.

Invasion (Halo Reach)

Invasion was a popular game mode in Halo: Reach, where players were pitted in a 6 vs 6 scenario, with Spartans against Elites fighting it out to the death. There are some thematic differences of objectives depending on the map, but the attackers vs defenders layout remains the same. While other modes have tried to replicate the same thrill, nothing comes close to the enjoyament that Reach's Invasion brought.

Halo: Infinite would need to bring back Elites in multiplayer to make the game mode work and 343 Industries has done that to a lighter extent (in Halo: MCC's Halo 2 Anniversary). The best way to integrate Invasion for modern Halo fans would be to make a Warzone variant, much like Warzone firefight in Halo 5: Guardians. Invasion would be great on big maps with a lot of room for all sort of vehicular mayhem, and I would love to see how the Slipspace engine renders traditional enemy units such as the Elites.

Extraction (Halo 4)

Halo 4's Extraction was a widely praised game mode introduced that was introduced by 343 Industries. This 5-a-side game mode, where players had to plant a beacon and protect, finished when one team had made five successful plants. It is somewhat similar to King of the Hill or Hardpoint in Call of Duty, but it was unique enough to really leave a lasting impression on Halo fans.

Unfortunately, we didn't see it return in Halo 5: Guardians, the community-made variants failed to live up to the same hype. I would love to see this return instead of Breakout for Halo: Infinite because I believe it would add a lot of depth for pro play. Oddball is great, but I feel that it does not work as well in modern Halo - extraction feels like it provides a lot more for the fun gunfights that Halo is should provide.

Firefight (Halo 3/Reach)

Firefight is a very simple game mode, you fight off waves of AI enemy combatants, that simplicity is what made it so good to many that played it! Firefight 2.0 was iconic because of how well it encapsulated the sheer amount of customization and fun you could accomplish in Reach. Other games have had wave-based shoot em ups, but the Halo sandbox was something that anyone wanted to queue up for with their mates.

Halo 5: Guardians integrated Firefight as a Warzone game-mode, but it felt underwhelming in comparison. Firefight 2.0 in Reach had a more depth, more customization and this is what made it it so much more fun. If it were to be brought back in the same way as Halo: Reach I would be extremely happy/impressed - it was one of the crowning achievements during Bungie's Halo days, it would be a shame not to give it justice in Halo: Infinite.
