How do you parry in Spider-Man 2?

There are two ways to parry in Spider-Man 2. The first is a defensive parry, or block, which allows you to negate damage and buy time against weaker enemies. To do this, you'll need to hold L1. This will deflect the opponent's attack away from you.

Against tougher enemies, however, this won't prevent you from taking damage. Bosses and stronger enemy types can break through your defensive parry, causing you to take damage and in some cases, stagger.

Instead, you'll want to swap to using an offensive parry. This will prevent you from taking damage, and immediately launch you into an attack combo against your foe. To do this, you'll need to drop your defensive parry entirely.

Now, when a heavy attack comes your way you'll be able to offensively parry. To do so, you'll need to press L1 only when a red aura appears around Spider-Man's head. If you do this correctly, you'll perform an offensive parry, striking back at the attacking foe.

Parrying offensively to start a counter-attack is a little more challenging. Correctly timing the input isn't usually too hard, but a single mistake could prove fatal if you're playing on ultimate difficulty. It will take a bit of practice to get the move nailed down consistently, but once you've done so, it will make even Spider-Man 2's most challenging boss fights much easier.
