A new mechanic added alongside the introduction of Necrozma, the new Pokémon Go Fusion mechanic allows you to fuse two creatures together to make one creature.

At the time of writing, Fusion isn’t currently available in Pokémon Go. However, detailed leaks found by dataminers reveal exactly what the mechanic is, how to fuse Pokémon and also the new mechanic’s restrictions.

For a full Pokémon Go Fusion explanation, check out all of the available information below.

What is Pokémon Go Fusion?

Fusion in Pokémon Go allows you to fuse two creatures to make one creature. Just like in the mainline games, Pokémon like Kyreum and Necrozma can be fused to create another creature.

For example, Shadow Rider Calyrex can only exist if you fuse Calyrex and Spectrier. Dawn Wings Necrozma can only be acquired after fusing the normal Necrozma with Lunala.

The new Pokémon Go Fusion mechanic doesn’t mean you can simply shove any two creatures together, although that would be would. Instead, you can simply fuse two compatible creatures together with pre-existing results.

To fuse creatures you’ll need the appropriate type of Fusion Energy. For example, fusing together Necrozma with Lunala will require Lunar Fusion Energy. Unfortunately, it’s not currently known how to get Fusion Energy in Pokémon Go.

Pokémon will also be able to be separated from their fused state for no cost at all. This means that you won’t have to catch every Pokémon again once you fuse them.

What Pokémon can be fused together?

Thankfully, we already have an answer for which Pokémon can be fused and their results in Pokémon Go. A recent datamine of the mobile game reveals exactly what creatures will support the Fusion mechanic when it launches.

Check out a full list of Fusion Pokémon here:

  • Calyrex + Spectrier = Shadow Rider Calyrex
  • Calyrex + Glastrier = Ice Rider Calyrex
  • Necrozma + Solgaleo = Dusk Mane Necrozma
  • Necrozma + Lunala = Dawn Wings Necrozma
  • Kyurem + Reshiram = Kyurem White
  • Kyurem + Zelrom = Kyurem Black

How to fuse Pokémon in Pokémon Go

When the Pokémon Go Fusion mechanic is live in the mobile game, you’ll be able to fuse and un-fuse creatures at the push of a button. Here’s how you’ll fuse creatures:

  • Select a fusion capable Pokémon in your collection
  • Press the Fusion button
  • Select the Pokémon you wish to fuse with
  • Spend the appropriate Fusion Energy
  • Your Pokémon are now fused

How to un-fuse or separate Pokémon in Pokémon Go

Judging from the leaks, reversing the fusion process in Pokémon Go is just as easy as fusing two creatures. Essentially, there will be a button to separate un-fuse Pokémon that are fused together.

  • Select your currently-fused Pokémon in your collection
  • Press the Separate button to split the creature back into two
  • Watch the animation
  • Enjoy having two sentient creatures again

Thankfully, it costs nothing to separate Pokémon from their fused state, but you will have to pay Fusion Energy to fuse them again in the future.

Pokémon Go fused restrictions

Unfortunately, there are some restrictions for fused Pokémon that will be introduced alongside the mechanic. Some of these are expected, and some are a tad annoying, but nothing is game-breaking.

Here are the restrictions surrounding fusion and fused Pokémon:

  • You cannot fuse your buddy Pokémon
  • Fused Pokémon cannot be left at a Pokémon Go gym
  • You cannot transfer a fused Pokémon
  • Fused Pokémon cannot be traded to another player

All in all, the fusion mechanic is restricted in the same ways we’d expect. If you have a problem with any of the restrictions listed above, we don’t make the game, so complain elsewhere.
