Niantic's record-breaking mobile game Pokemon Go is adding an official fusion mechanic. Set to be added before the arrival of the legendary Pokemon Necrozma, this mechanic will improve the implementation of numerous available Pokemon.

Soon to make its debut, Necrozma is a Pokemon known for fusing with other Alolan creatures, namely Sogaleo and Lunala. Introduced in the 3DS games Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Necrozma is related to the mysterious Ultra Beasts.
According to dataminers, new game files can be found in Pokemon Go relating to an upcoming Fusion mechanic. With Necrozma set to be added to the mobile game during the upcoming Go Fest 2024 celebrations this Summer, the new Fusion mechanic will likely be limited to a few different creatures.

Posted on the PokeMiners website, the new Pokemon Fusion mechanic will allow you to fuse and un-fuse creatures in the mobile game. For example, Necrozma can be fused with Solgaleo to create Dusk Mane Necrozma or with Lunala to create Dawn Wings Necrozma.

There are also references in the game to a fusion for Calyrex which can be fused with Glastrier to become Ice Rider Calyrex, or Spectrier to become Shadow Rider Calyrex. Of course, Zekrom and Reshiram will also be able to be fused into White Kyurem and Black Kyurem respectively.

Fusing in Pokemon Go will require players to use a new resource that has yet to be added to the game: Fusion Energy. Judging from the recent datamine, you'll have to use Solar Fusion energy for fusing Dusk Mane Necrozma and Ice Rider Calyrex and Lunar Fusion Energy to fuse Dawn Wings Necrozma and Shadow Rider Calyrex.

Furthermore, there appears to be a minor restriction with fusing your Pokemon. If your Sogaleo, Lunala, Calyrex or other Pokemon is currently set as your buddy, you won't be able to fuse them. This could also mean that fused Pokemon cannot be set as buddies, but that's just speculation. Fused Pokemon can also not be left at gyms.

While not an all-out fusion bonanza like some fan games (Pokemon Infinite Fusion is a riot), this is a useful mechanic that gets us a little bit closer to a complete Pokedex on our phones. Furthermore, with the arrival of Necrozma, it's pretty much an essential addition at this point.
