After you finish the second quest, you'll learn how to capture animals and conjure a device called Enchanting Loom. This device allows you to enchant your gear with magical animals' material, which you can add your traits too.
As traits can also add special attributes to your gear, you should acquire them as well. These are found across your map in loot collection chests at Bandit Camps. With that, you'll be able to upgrade your gear and clothes using these materials and traits, using the Enchanting Loom.
