In GTA Online, to put it simply, there are those who grief and those who are griefed.

No matter whether they’re accidentally taking out some malcontent in a jet, sniping supposed villains out of the sky or putting together a Netflix show worth of bad guy slaying clips, many GTA players who consider themselves to be on the latter end of that equation love getting a bit of revenge when they can.

The ways they go about this vary, but one player on Reddit has shared a strategy which might be the best if you’re looking to get some payback of your own.

GTA Players Enjoy Playing Possum to Bait Griefers

This is the topic of a recent thread in the GTA Online subreddit, which began with user Bananorpion sharing a clip of them sitting still and waiting for a player to approach their vehicle before attacking, captioning it: “pretending to be afk to trick tryhards”.

A few users were big fans of this game plan, with Saxtus saying: “this made me laugh hard!” and TheDriverJ adding: “I really need to get me a Nightshark”.

Other players shared their stories of trying similar strategies, with citizencamembert saying: “I did that and another player came up to me really confused. They didn’t try and kill me but to see them running around in circles and standing on my roof trying to get me to leave my car was quite funny.”

On the other hand, user joker2814 said: “I often drive my Nightshark with a sticky bomb attached to the outside of the truck, so I just have to detonate it when I’m close enough to my target.”

Meanwhile, there was some debate as to whether the supposed victim of the strategy was actually a griefer, with user ChitownShep saying: “homeboy rode up in a Prius, ‘tryhard’ is a stretch”, to which Bananorpion responded: “His car choice surprised me indeed, but he had been repeatedly killing low-levels for ten minutes, and, well, he was wearing the traditional tryhard helmet.”

Regardless of whether you believe the player to have been a tryhard or not, make sure to follow us for more GTA Online updates as new content, possibly starring Michael from single-player, is released.
