Genshin Impact Kuki Shinobu, or just Shinobu for short, is one of two new characters teased for the 2.7 version update in May. She’s the new four-star character debuting, presumably, alongside Yelan, a five-star Hydro. While Hoyoverse provided quite a bit of information about who Kuki is, we’re still rather in the dark when it comes to what Kuki Shinobu’s skills are.
This guide covers what we do know about Kuki, including her place in Inazuma society, her weapon, element, and what may end up being true about her abilities.

When is the Genshin Impact Shinobu Release Date?
Kuki Shinobu will more than likely run during the first half of the version 2.7 update. Assuming Hoyoverse follows the usual six-week pattern for updates, that'll go live May 10 and last through May 31 before a new banner takes over. Whether it's another double Wish event, with Kuki and other four-star characters appearing across multiple banners, we'll have to wait and find out.

Who Is Kuki Shinobu in Genshin Impact?
The Hoyoverse blog post announcing Kuki says she's the deputy leader of the Arataki Gang and a surprisingly well-connected deputy leader at that. Under Kuki's guidance, the Arataki gang began branching out into legal guidance and business consultation. She's also said to have close ties with the Tenryou Commission, and Kujou Sara has occasionally helped direct commissions Kuki's way.
What Is Shinobu's Weapon in Genshin Impact?
Kuki is a sword wielder, and while her artwork appears to show her holding a purple, perhaps Electro-infused, sword, most four-star characters don't get their own special weapons. Since the Electro Traveler and Keqing are currently the only Electro sword characters, Kuki seems like she'll be a good way to shake up party compositions.
What Is Shinobu's Element in Genshin Impact?
Kuki Shinobu possesses an Electro Vision, the third Inazuma character to do so. That means we can probably expect her to use items from the Electro Hypostasis or perhaps Storm Beads. Her affiliation with the Arataki Gang means she may require Onikabuto Beetles as well, though information about the specifics is still very light.
What Are Shinobu's Abilities in Genshin Impact?
Again, there's no solid word or even reliable speculation about what Shinobu's abilities might be. Some early suggestions pointed to her as a healer character similar to an Electro Qiqi. Genshin leaker Ubatcha classified this rumor as "questionable" though, so don't take it to heart just yet.
One more recent leak from Dimbreath lists her full set of abilities, though as always, it should still be treated as rumor until Hoyoverse actually confirms it.
Shinobu Elemental Skill - Sanctifying Ring
Uses some of Kuki's HP to generate a ring of Electro. The ring deals Electro damage every 1.5 seconds and heals the active character.
Shinobu Elemental Burst - Goei Narukami Kariyama Rite
Kuki thrusts her sword into the ground, generating an Electro barrier that deals damage to all inside it. The barrier lasts longer if Kuki has 50% HP or less.
What Are Shinobu's Materials?
The same leak from Dimbreath shows Kuki will use:
- Naku Weed
- Spectral Husk
- Runic Fang
- Elegance books
Runic Fang drops from the new serpent boss in the Chasm.
What Is the Best Shinobu Build in Genshin Impact?
It's a bit too early to say how Kuki can be built just yet, though thanks to leaks on Honey Impact, we have a fair idea of what might work.
Best Kuki Shinobu Weapon
|Weapon||Secondary Stat||Passive Skill|
|Mistsplitter Reforged||Critical damage||Gain a 12~24% Elemental DMG Bonus for all elements and receive the might of the Mistsplitter's Emblem. At stack levels 1/2/3, Mistsplitter's Emblem provides a 8/16/28~16/32/56% Elemental DMG Bonus for the character's Elemental Type. The character will obtain 1 stack of Mistsplitter's Emblem in each of the following scenarios: Normal Attack deals Elemental DMG (stack lasts 5s), casting Elemental Burst (stack lasts 10s); Energy is less than 100% (stack disappears when Energy is full). Each stack's duration is calculated independently.|
|Aquila Favonia||Physical damage||ATK is increased by 20~40%. Triggers on taking DMG: the soul of the Falcon of the West awakens, holding the banner of the resistance aloft, regenerating HP equal to 100~160% of ATK and dealing 200~320% of ATK as DMG to surrounding opponents. This effect can only occur once every 15s.|
|Amenoma Kageuchi||Attack||After casting an Elemental Skill, gain 1 Succession Seed. This effect can be triggered once every 5s. The Succession Seed lasts for 30s. Up to 3 Succession Seeds may exist simultaneously. After using an Elemental Burst, all Succession Seeds are consumed and after 2s, the character regenerates 6~12 Energy for each seed consumed.|
Mistsplitter Reforged resides mostly in theory land, since there's more than likely at least one other member in your party - including the Traveler - who's better suited for it. However, there's also no denying that it would work very well with Shinobu, increasing the damage of her Skill and Bursts along with raising her overall attack power.
Aquila Favonia is a solid choice if you're opting for a more offense-focused build, since it increases her attack power twice - once through the secondary stat and again with the passive skill. Shinobu will automatically take damage when you use her Elemental Skill, so the attack boost from Favonia's passive skill is guaranteed - and you can still heal from it thanks to the skill's effect.
Finally is the F2P option, one of the best if you plan on using Shinobu's Burst frequently. Along with a general increase to the wielder's attack power, Amenoma Kageuchi restores the user's Energy, which means you can pull off Shinobu's Burst more often.
Best Kuki Shinobu Artifacts
|Artifact set||Two-Piece Effect||Four-Piece Effect|
|Vermillion Hereafter||Attack +18%||After using an Elemental Burst. this character will gain the Nascent Light effect, increasing their ATK by 8% for 16s. When the character's HP decreases, their ATK will further increase by 10%. This increase can occur this way maximum of 4 times. This effect can be triggered once every 0.8s. Nascent Light will be dispelled when the character leaves the field. If an Elemental Burst is used again during the duration of Nascent Light, the original Nascent Light will be dispelled.|
|Thundering Fury||Electro damage bonus +15%||Increases damage caused by Overloaded, Electro-Charged and Superconduct by 40%. Triggering such effects decreases Elemental Skill CD by 1s. Can only occur once every 0.8s.|
The new Vermillion Hereafter set is excellent for Kuki Shinobu. The four-piece effect comes into play and raises attack when the user's HP drops, and Shinobu's HP will always drop after using the skill. Keeping her HP below 50% to maximize the Burst's effect makes this build even better, since there's only a small amount of risk involved. The Skill will heal Shinobu anyway, so she won't be vulnerable for long.
Thundering Fury is a more traditional approach focused on getting the most out of Shinobu's Electro damage, making it good for Burst-centered builds.
