Looking for more details around Genshin Impact's Baizhu? The mysterious herbalist and proprietor of Liyue Harbor's Bubu Pharmacy is an unusual character. Not only does he have a Dendro vision, but just like Fischl and her night raven, Oz, Baizhu also has a walking, talking companion. Well, not so much walking, since Changsheng is actually a snake that spends her time wrapped around the pharmacist's neck like a scaly scarf.
All you have to do is look at Baizhu to know that he's intended to be a playable character – not only does he have an impeccable character design, but he's also a vision user who even appears in Genshin Impact's main Archon story quests. The fact that Baizhu was planned as a playable character was also leaked back in version 1.5.
So when can you get your hands on him? In this Genshin Impact Baizhu guide, we round up everything there is to know about the snake-wrangling, Dendro-wielding pharmacist, including a potential release date, weapon, rarity, and backstory.
What Is the Genshin Impact Baizhu Release Date?
Baizhu's release date could actually be a lot sooner than you think. Though he originally leaked back in version 1.5, as Baizhu wields a Dendro vision, he can't appear before that element exists in the game. Dendro is currently the only missing element in Genshin Impact and is basically plant magic. However, the region of the Dendro Archon, Sumeru, is likely the next one we'll visit after Inazuma.
This is based on the region order of the preview trailer, which Mihoyo has stuck to so far. Just as Kazuha and Beidou acted as guides to Inazuma and came to the new region with us, maybe Baizhu will end up being our guide to Sumeru. It's hard to say when that will be, but it depends how long Mihoyo chooses to stick around in Inazuma after Genshin Impact 2.1.
Is There a Genshin Impact Baizhu Banner?
There isn't currently a banner for Baizhu since his release date is likely a fair way off yet, but we know from previous leaks that he is likely to be a five-star character, and he'll be featured alongside another new four-star character when he does arrive. Perhaps Yao Yao will be that four-star, since we know she's also probably going to be a Dendro Vision user. There's no saying for certain just yet.
Genshin Impact Baizhu Build and Abilities
Dataminers have discovered that Baizhu is a catalyst-user, which makes sense when you consider that he has suffered from a debilitating illness his whole life, meaning he may be unable to handle the strain of physical combat. His illness is why he seeks immortality and why he took in the zombie, Qiqi, who he continues to study, though has also grown to care for her.
We also know Baizhu is a Dendro Vision user. As mentioned before, Dendro is basically plant magic, and though there are no characters with the element right now, there are Dendro slimes in the game – they're the ones that hide underground and are weak to fire, as you might expect of plants. Dendro will have unique elemental reactions and resonances, but it's likely that Dendro magic will involve entangling foes similar to Freeze.
Genshin Impact Baizhu Weapon
When dataminers discovered Baizhu was planned as a playable character, they also found evidence of a signature weapon known as the Jade Catalyst. We have no idea what this does, or if it will even return when Baizhu finally rolls around, but if he doesn't receive his own unique weapon, there are more than enough strong catalysts for him to choose from.
What Is Baizhu's Snake?
Changsheng is the name of the snake that Baizhu wears wrapped around his neck like a scarf. She has white scales and red eyes, and like Oz the night raven, she can also talk. It's not entirely clear what Changsheng is, but chances are as with Fischl, or Razor's Electro wolf spirit buddy, that she is a familiar, or some kind of manifestation of Baizhu's power. It also seems like no coincidence that her name translates to "long life", while Baizhu is searching for immortality.
Genshin Impact Baizhu Voice Actors
Baizhu's Japanese voice actor is Kōji Yusa, who you may recognise from plenty of anime, but in the last few years he's been in High Rise Invasion, the Dororo remake, Midnight Occult Civil Servants, and very recently in Vanitas. However, Baizhu's English voice acting is a bit strange, since for some reason it significantly changes direction between his original cutscene and his most recent. There also don't seem to be any official credits related to his English voice actor, so who knows which style Mihoyo will go with when Baizhu actually returns.
