Riot shields in Modern Warfare 2 often act as a hot topic of conversation within the community. Whether you choose to use it instead of a gun or place it on your back for some additional protection, some are fans of this particular weapon while others want it to disappear altogether.
With attention turning to the start of Season Two, players continue to suggest a variety of changes that are capable of improving the current state of multiplayer. Although Infinity Ward’s focus is on Warzone 2 and DMZ, there are plenty of fans still dropping into MW2.
This particular change involves armour-piercing rounds that no longer pierce armour. Instead, players want the ammunition to break riot shields.
Are riot shield-piercing rounds the way forward?
During a match, the chances of you encountering a riot shield are extremely high. In a bid to nerf their versatility, Reddit user SoulBlazer535 says armour-piercing ammunition countering riot shields “are a huge opportunity to make them useful.”
The suggestion comes after the MW2 developer nerfed riot shields so you need to score three hits to secure a kill. Despite this, the demand for change remains.
Instead of buffing armour-piercing rounds, another user says a Semtex stick should have the same effect. “We need to be able to kill them by sticking a Semtex.”
Considering the second season of post-launch content is on the horizon, there’s always a possibility of Infinity Ward applying further changes to the controversial riot shield. However, the lack of weapon balancing to more prominent weapons in the arsenal implies there may not be any nerfs appearing anytime soon.
Until there are changes, expect to see riot shields on the back of your opponents for the foreseeable future. Before you go, take a look at our guides showcasing the best Modern Warfare 2 SMG and all there is to know about upcoming Modern Warfare 2 double XP events.
