Since they finally received the massive DLC announcement they’d all been craving, Elden Ring players have all been basking in the warm glow of knowing that work on the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is definitely underway.

For those who aren’t busy doing detective work to try and unearth clues as to what the DLC might involve, now is the perfect time to undertake an intense training regimen that’ll refresh and hone your skills in time for the expansion’s arrival.

If you’re in need of a way to spice up your boss battle prep sessions and don’t fancy donning some new armour, trying out a bizarre challenge run, or creating a build inspired by Skyrim’s Dragonborn, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

You don’t really understand how intimidating Elden Ring’s bosses are until you’ve had to tilt your camera upwards just to see their faces

The mod in question is called ‘First Person Souls - Full Game Conversion’ and is the work of a group of modders dubbed ‘The First Person Souls Project’, who are seemingly led by Dasaav. Their sole previous creation brought a first-person camera to Dark Souls 3.

This time, they’ve done the same to Elden Ring, giving players the chance to: “experience Elden Ring like you have never before” by viewing it “with your own eyes”, as is demonstrated in the trailer below.

As you can see, every boss battle the game has to offer can be tried out from this new perspective, with a bunch of gameplay mechanics having been adjusted by the First Person Souls team, in order to ensure things feel as “seamless and polished” as possible during these frenetic fights.

Among these changes are the addition of custom HUD elements, the integration of animated head tracking, plus some revisions of how the player character moves and aims, all of which you can tweak to suit your personal preferences via in-game menus or the mod’s INI file.

Those keen to experience their fresh viewpoint with friends will be glad to hear that the mod supports online play via LukeYui’s ‘Seamless Co-op’, allowing you to feel a little less small and alone, even while lurking in the shadows of the game’s towering architecture or taking on a creature several times larger than you are.

If you’ve already clicked download, you might also want to consider joining the First Person Souls team’s Discord server or following them on Twitter to get updates on this and other projects they’re working on.

Regardless of whether you’re now gawking and gasping at how the Lands Between look from a first-person perspective, make sure to follow us for coverage of some interesting streamers and guides to Shadow of the Erdtree as soon as it arrives.
