When it comes to teasing the arrival of new content, the Call of Duty series often leads player opinion down all kinds of paths, before eventually unveiling the likes of Modern Warfare 3 to the world.

The sequel to Modern Warfare 2 is the next instalment in Activision's popular shooter series and, as Sledgehammer Games continues to share more information on the multiplayer map list and the single-player campaign, eagle-eyed players have been combing through each new reveal for interesting details.

MW3's latest campaign reveal trailer, debuted during last night's Gamescom Opening Night Live, focused on demonstrating Open Combat Missions, but some players believe a small section of it may have showcased a brand-new Warzone map for the very first time.

Call of Duty potentially teases new Warzone map

Following the showcase of the trailer, Sledgehammer Games unveiled a short clip of a player parachuting into one of the levels, seemingly showcasing the next large-scale battleground for Call of Duty's battle royale.

The clip shows a sunlit environment with a pale green colour palette, dotted with a mixture of single-storey and multi-storey buildings.

Shortly after the clip arrived, Warzone content creator BlueX posted a tweet suggesting that the wartorn settlement is part of the next Warzone map, much to the excitement of players wondering how the release of Modern Warfare 3 will affect Warzone.

Judging by the comments on the tweet, there are already plenty of players hoping to see more of the map, which is rumoured to be set in the Las Almas region of the Modern Warfare universe. According to claims, the map will be set in the Middle East and feature a range of buildings ideal for close-quarters action

One player says: "It does look like Verdansk from Season 1!" On the other hand, some already have concerns surrounding the map's design, with one player declaring: "(A) New Caldera?! No!"

Considering it's only a small snippet, it's hard to tell whether this potential new Warzone map will live up to the high expectations of players. The Call of Duty Next event will likely shed more light on the map and how Modern Warfare 3 will integrate into the game.

For now, though, it appears the desert setting of Al Mazrah might not be around for much longer.
