With both a blockchain version and a mobile version previously announced, many players were awaiting the launch of this new NFT game to kickstart their play-to-earn adventure. However, it now seems this may have to wait.
So, as SHIB holders await the potential launch of the Shiba Inu game in September, here’s what Shytoshi said.
Shiba Eternity mobile launch
Posting in the Shiba Inu Discord, SHIB project lead Shytoshi Kusama confirmed Shiba Eternity will release exclusively as a mobile title at launch.
When asked by a SHIB holder whether Shiba Eternity is either a mobile game or a crypto game, Shytoshi said:
Nope. Purely mobile to start, then blockchain after.
There’s no knowing when exactly the blockchain version, which should further incorporate the Shiboshi NFTs, will launch. However, Shytoshi did give us some reasoning for why the developers made this decision.
Potential benefits for Shiba Inu
After confirming Shiba Eternity will launch on mobile first, Shytoshi said this is the “opposite of what others have done”.
Shytoshi’s comments could come as an awareness of the push NFT games make to monetise above all else, instead of first making a game people want to play without the incentives of earning free cryptocurrency.
Without the core audience of people playing Shiba Eternity for fun, it could quickly die out and leave behind a player base only there to earn cryptocurrency. Several major NFT games, such as Axie Infinity, have suffered from similar problems in the past.
By first launching as a mobile game, and then a blockchain game later down the line, Shiba Eternity could first establish itself before implementing these monetisation aspects. This could help with its longevity.
However, there is also just the chance that the blockchain version is not yet finished. PlaySide’s announcement of the SHIB partnership makes no reference to a blockchain version.
