Season 1 Reloaded for Call of Duty Vanguard is officially underway, much to the excitement of those hoping Sledgehammer Games has addressed numerous bugs and imbalances currently impacting multiplayer. Alongside an extensive list of fixes in the update's patch notes, a new submachine gun (SMG) has joined the ever-expanding arsenal of guns that are available.
The Welgun is described as a heavy SMG and comes with a moderate rate of fire alongside recoil levels that are extremely easy to control. In order for it to contend with other SMGs, there are a number of attachments that can be equipped in order to deal huge levels of damage and score plenty of kills over the course of a match. How to Unlock Welgun
The process of unlocking the SMG is incredibly straightforward. Simply earn 10 kills while aiming down sights with an SMG in a single match 15 times. We recommend jumping into the chaos of Ship Haus 24/7 to work through the challenge as quickly as possible.
Best Welgun Vanguard Attachments
After spending some time experimenting with a range of different attachment combinations, we settled on this set of ten attachments that provide significant improvements to the Welgun's firepower and accuracy levels at the cost of a slight decrease in mobility.
- Muzzle: F8 Stabilizer
- Barrel: 320mm SA Shrouded
- Optic: MK. 3 Reflector
- Stock: Gaiwan Skeletal
- Underbarrel: Mark VI Skeletal
- Magazine: .45 48 Round Mags
- Ammo Type: Lengthened
- Rear Grip: Polymer Grip
- Proficiency: Frenzy
- Kit: Quick
Over the course of a match, we found that this set of attachments was the strongest by some distance. The combination of F8 Stabilizer and 320 MM SA Shrouded Barrel gave the Welgun laser-like accuracy in those frantic close-range encounters alongside providing stability in less chaotic mid-range gunfights. With the barrel significantly reducing mobility, we selected the Gaiwan Skeletal Stock for a slightly faster sprint-to-fire speed, faster movement speed, and another accuracy boost when firing the SMG for a prolonged length of time.
To allow you to score plenty of high-tier Killstreaks, the choice of the Frenzy Proficiency to immediately start regenerating health after a kill is scored is a no-brainer alongside the election of 48 Round Mags which allow you to eliminate several targets without the need to find a safe space and reload on a regular basis/
Best Welgun Vanguard Loadout
Once the attachments have been equipped, selecting other elements of the loadout are just as important. With a range of Perks, Equipment, and Field Upgrades to choose from, there is a variety of additional benefits that can often make the difference between scoring another kill towards your Killstreaks or viewing the Killcam once again.
Perks
- Perk 1: Dauntless
- Perk 2: Forward Intel
- Perk 3: Lightweight
This set of Perks is crucial if you want to gain every possible advantage over the opposition. Dauntless grants immunity to any burning effects while Forward Intel enables you to determine where the opposition is spawning, making it very easy to trap them in.
The third and final Perk we selected is Lightweight. With the mobility of the Welgun taking a hit in favour of higher accuracy, the increase in movement speed makes it much easier to strafe any enemies during a gunfight.
Equipment
- Lethal: Gammon Bomb
- Tactical: No 69 Stun Grenade
With most players utilising Dauntless to their advantage, grenades that emit fire are somewhat useless, which is why we've selected the Gammon Bomb for an instant burst of explosive damage. To prevent anyone escaping the deadly accuracy of the Welgun, the No 69 Stun Grenade slows the movement of anyone hit by it, making them a very easy target.
Field Upgrade
- Dead Silence
Selecting Dead Silence as a Field Upgrade is a very easy decision to make. With the ability to get behind enemy lines without alerting any opposition to your locations, it's the best opportunity to make a huge impact on the game.
Is The Welgun Good in Vanguard?
Having spent several hours using the Welgun, I can safely say that the newest SMG in the Vanguard arsenal is hugely impressive thanks to its incredible accuracy levels and versatility. It may not have the same rate of fire or mobility as the MP-40 but the additional mid-range performance makes any player using it a menace on the map. If you haven't already tried it, I recommend unlocking it and using it before Sledgehammer decides to nerf it!
