Following another three weeks of online matches, the Call of Duty League (CDL) returned to action as the competitive Vanguard season descended on Toronto for the third Major of the season.

Heading into the event, Minnesota RØKKR was in fine form after winning all five of its online matches to secure the top seed for the event. Meanwhile, the likes of OpTic Texas and Atlanta FaZe continued to show strong form as the focus begins to turn towards the season-ending CDL Championship.

While Minnesota failed to reach the final, Seattle Surge worked its way through the winner's bracket to secure its first CDL title.

Seattle Surge Wins First CDL Trophy

On its way to the final, Surge dispatched the New York Subliners, Florida Mutineers and Atlanta FaZe to book its place in the grand final for the first time in 2022.

Standing in Surge's way was Atlanta FaZe, a team that's no stranger to a Vanguard grand final having finished second at the first two Major tournaments. With both teams looking for their first win of the season, the match ebbed and flowed in favour of both rosters before Seattle managed to walk away with a 5-3 victory.

What Next For Atlanta FaZe?

Despite being the defending CDL champions, a third loss in a grand final for Atlanta FaZe is a concern for fans of the Red Militia. It's clear to see that the team is full of world-class talent but something isn't clicking when the stakes are high.

Thankfully for Atlanta, qualifiers for Major 4 begin on June 24 so it's not long before FaZe can get another chance of winning their first tournament on Vanguard.
