Pokemon Sword and Shield will be getting more content soon in The Crown Tundra.

The immersive Galar Region has been amazing to explore and all the regions around it including the Isle of Armor.

Although we do not have a clear release date as of now, fans are hopeful.

You can purchase both expansions for Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Estore as a bundle.

Update Is Live! - 22nd October

SerebiiNet has announced that the Crown Tundra patch is now being pushed live across the Nintendo Switch!

New legendary Pokemon are being added to the game - two to be exact.

We're also getting new shiny variants of some old favourites.

Legendaries Are A Guaranteed Catch - 18th October

It's been confirmed that along with all legendaries returning in this expansion, they will all be a guaranteed catch!

No longer will you need to rinse your Poke Ball supplies and exhaust your Pokemon to get them.

What Is The Crown Tundra

The Crown Tundra is the second DLC from the Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion.

The second expansion for Sword and Shield appears to revolve around the theme of 'Exploration'.

Based in the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra, you'll explore a snowy and mountainous region.

Once again you will find new Pokemon, temples and strange environments.

You'll be appointed the leader of their exploration team, so gear up and head out on a new adventure!

The expansion will feature open and seamless gameplay, much like the wild area, allowing players to roam around freely and control the camera; Max raid battles will also return.

The Crown Tundra is inspired by Scotland!

Release Date And Time

The Crown Tundra launches on October 23rd, meaning you'll be able to play it very soon!

We're expecting the release time to be at 5am BST/4am UTC.

Platforms

The expansion is only available on the Nintendo Switch, through the Nintendo eShop.

You can also pick up a version of Pokemon Sword or Shield that includes the expansion pass

Co-op

The Crown Tundra will let you play cooperatively with your friends to catch legendary Pokemon from all generations of Pokemon in underground dens.

These legendary Pokemon will Dynamax before your eyes as you attempt to catch them for yourself.

New Features

New features in the game include:

New costumes
New Pokemon and legendaries
A new area to explore
New Gigantamax forms

There are also plenty of new features that we want to see such as a new evil team, improved Raid battles and a bigger challenge.

Galarian Star Tournament

As part of The Crown Tundra, we'll be facing off against familiar foes in 2 v 2 battles.

Expect to see the main game's gym leaders teaming up to take on you and a partner!

It also looks as though we'll be able to change our battle outfits in this mode, too!

New Pokemon

The new expansion will bring back EVERY legendary Pokemon from previous games.

That means you can expect to battle the likes of Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and many more!

While we can confirm at least 80 Pokemon, there is plenty still to be announced - although many have been released into the game already.

Most legendary Pokemon that are available in The Crown Tundra will be obtained through co-op play.

Calyrex is a legendary psychic and grass type Pokemon. This Pokemon previously ruled over the Tundra.

Zarude

Zarude is a genderless rogue monkey Pokemon - a Dark/Grass Pokemon.

Zarude is set to feature in the 23rd Pokemon movie and its currently unknown when or how it will feature in the games; could it appear in the expansion pass?

Legendary Horse Pokemon

According to a leak, there will be two new horse legendary Pokemon, one Ghost-type (Spectrier) and one Ice-type (Glastrier).

Interestingly, they'll apparently fuse with Calyrex.

It also looks like you'll choose one, like you had to pick and Urshifu variation in Isle of Armor.

New Costumes

New costumes will be arriving in Pokemon Sword and Shield's expansion pass.

There are now 100+ new ways to customize your look with clothing items and hairstyles added via the two expansions.

Hidden Ability Update

With a new item, Pokemon will be able to change their hidden abilities.

As per the game's official site:

"In The Crown Tundra, you may get new items called Ability Patches. They’re hard to come by but worth the effort. If you use one on a Pokémon, its Ability will change to its species’ Hidden Ability, if it has one!"

Price

The price for the expansion pass will be $29.99 and is available for pre-purchase.

It is unknown whether you can purchase the two expansions separately.

Starter Pokemon Gigantamax

Pokemon Sword and Shield have also introduced a few new updates to the base game.

Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon will receive brand new Gigantamax forms that can be used in new locations.

Sword and Shield also plan to introduce three new features:

Tutor Moves - including all new moves
Apricorns - can be made into Poke Balls
Exp Charm - Earn more Exp. Points for your team

New costumes, accessories and looks will also be available for your bike.

Even if you don't have the expansion pass, you'll be able to get the new Pokemon only obtained through the expansion pass via Link Trades.

You will have an increased chance of running into Gigantamax:

Coalossol (Sword)
Lapras (Shield)
Flapple (Sword)
Appletun (Shield)

A software update that goes live today will go live today.

When you receive it head to Wedgehurst station where you will be Klara (Sword) or Avery (Shield). You'll then be able to encounter a Galarian Slowpoke, which you can catch.

You can then evolve with a specific item. It will evolve into Galarian Slowbro on the Isle of Armor and Galarian Slowking in The Crown Tundra.

Players can also now access the Nintendo eShop from the in-game menu. When you purchase the expansion pass you will gain access to a Pikachu and Eevee costume.

Dynamax Adventures

Prepare for raids to get some new additions, as the mode moves closer to what was offered in the base game's Battle Tower.

Rent Pokemon and team up with friends to battle through tougher Pokemon. You can catch them, and add them to your party to help you progress further.

Mega Evolution

Despite Game Freak deciding not to include Mega Evolutions, instead opting to have Dynamaxing, it seems some items have eluded to a potential return in the Expansion Passes.

Here's what data miners found:

Blue Orb and Red Orb – help Groudon and Kyogre to undergo Primal Reversion
All Mega Stones – this could point to the return of Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Sword and Shield

New Costumes

New costumes will be arriving in Pokemon Sword and Shield's expansion pass.

Pokemon Home

Pokemon Home is now live and players can happily transfer their Pokemon from the app to their Sword and Shield game.

It's a great opportunity to prepare your team for the new expansion, as older Pokemon (not previously included in the game) will now be available.

It looks as though you'll still need to have caught a Pokemon to carry a version of it across from Pokemon Go, but it's a start.
