What Is Pokemon Home?

Pokemon Home is the new cloud-based service being produced to transfer and store your Pokemon in the latest games.

The app will be available on smartphones and Nintendo Switch devices.

To explain it simply, using a Pokemon pun, its the evolved form of Pokemon Bank.

Pokemon Bank is simply a place to store your Pokemon and works with a large majority of past Pokemon games.

Pokémon Home will also allow you to trade with both your friends and anyone else around the world when using it on a mobile device.

There is a notion that the ability to trade with multiple people at the same time might be included.

Players can also view Rankings, Distribution Regulations, and an events calendar, replacing the Pokémon Global Link.

Pokemon Home Points And BP Points

Pokemon Home Points are collected as you deposit more Pokemon.

When using the Switch version of Pokemon Home, you'll be able to exchange these point for Battle Points to use in the core Pokemon games such as Sword and Shield.

Compatible Generations And Games

Pokemon Bank originally allowed players to move Pokemon across any games that included X and Y, Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

A companion app called Poke Transporter also allowed players to connect to the core Generation I, II and V core games.

Pokemon Home works differently, to the disgruntlement of many users on Reddit.

Pokemon Home will allow players to depositPokemon from the following games:

  • Pokemon GO (coming in the future)
  • Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu!
  • Pokemon Let's Go, Eevee!
  • Pokemon Sword
  • Pokemon Shield
  • Pokemon Bank - Nintendo 3DS

But this is only one way, they cannot withdraw them from Pokemon Home once they are on there

Pokemon Sword and Shield is the only exception to this, allowing you to freely move Pokemon to and from Home.

In theory, almost every game works with it but does not have full functionality.

With Sword and Shield not having the national Pokedex, it's likely that this is in place to stop Pokemon moving to games that they are not supported in.

With Sword and Shield now getting an expansion, it was confirmed that any Pokemon found in Sword and Shield's Isle of Armor or Crown of Tundra will be transferable to and from other titles.

Requirements

From a smartphone perspective, it's unclear what are the minimum requirements to run the app itself.

It may be similar to Pokemon GO, however, it could be lower depending on how much strain the app would exert on the phone.

Pokemon GO requirements are as follows:

iPhone

  • iPhone 5s or above
  • iOS 10 or above
  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
  • GPS and Location Services
  • Jailbroken devices are not supported

Android

  • Android 5 or above
  • Preferred resolution of 720×1280 pixels (Pokémon GO is not optimized for tablets)
  • Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
  • GPS and Location Services
  • Rooted devices are not supported
  • Accessories

Storage

The amount of storage available is unknown - it's likely to stay the same as the Pokemon Bank.

A Bank allows you to store up 3,000 Pokémon from your games in an online cloud.

This system mirrors the PCs you see in-game, holding 100 Boxes capable of carrying 30 Pokémon each.

Boxes can be assigned to one of 10 groups with customisable names.
