Kojima Productions Reveal Death Stranding Sold Five Million Copies


Kojima Productions has revealed that Death Stranding sold over five million copies on PC and PS4. Following June's announcement during Summer Games Fest of a Director's Cut on PS5 - a name Hideo Kojima isn't a fan of - Kojima Productions offered an insight into the game's previous performance.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Kojima Productions head of publishing, Jay Boor, said:

With Death Stranding being the first title developed out of Kojima Productions, from a sales perspective, it has performed quite well. As of March 2021, Death Stranding has sold through over five million units worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PC

Kojima Productions Reveal Death Stranding Sold Five Million Copies

First launched in November 2019 on PS4, Death Stranding later came to PC the following July, and Boor confirmed they hit the five million mark in March 2021. However, Boor didn't specify what percentage of sales came from each platform, leaving that detail up for speculation.

That figure will certainly grow with September 24th's Director's Cut release, too. Adding new story missions, new combat mechanics, a firing range, a racing mode and more, it's set to become the definitive edition of Kojima's post-apocalyptic adventure. We'll keep you informed when we learn more.
