Here's our Honkai Star Rail Jing Yuan build! Honkai Star Rail introduced Jing Yuan as a playable Lightning DPS character who can dish out massive damage. He can summon the Lightning Lord to his side to assist against the most powerful foes.
While Jing Yuan’s kit has some random elements to it due to how Lightning Lord’s targeting works, you can still get consistent damage from the character. Keeping Jing Yuan alive is very important, as Lightning Lord retreats if Jing falls in battle. To optimise Jing Yuan’s build, you want to focus on both survivability and damage.
The best Honkai Star Rail Jing Yuan build
Best Light Cone for Jing Yuan
Jing Yuan’s signature Light Cone is Before Dawn. It boosts Jing Yuan’s energy restoration based on his crit rate and after you use your skill, his crit rate is boosted even further. If you do not have access to the five-star Light Cone, you can consider using The Birth of the Self instead, which can help increase his DPS.
Increases the wearer's CRIT DMG by 32%. Increases the wearer's Skill and Ultimate DMG by 20%. After the wearer uses their Skill or Ultimate, they gain Somnus Corpus. Upon triggering a follow-up attack, Somnus Corpus will be consumed, and the follow-up attack DMG increases by 48%.
The Birth of the Self
Increases DMG dealt by the wearer's follow-up attacks by 24%. If the current HP of the target enemy is below 50% of Max HP, increases DMG dealt by follow-up attacks by an extra 24%.
Best relics for Jing Yuan
The best relic set for Jing Yuan is the Band of Sizzling Thunder, which gives him a massive damage bonus after using his skill. During the early game you can use Musketeer of Wild Wheat for bonus attacks.
Band of Sizzling Thunder
- 2-Piece Bonus: Increases Lightning DMG by 10%.
- 4-Piece Bonus: When the wearer uses Skill, increases the wearer's ATK by 25% for 1 turn(s).
Musketeer of Wild Wheat
- 2-Piece Bonus: ATK increases by 10%.
- 4-Piece Bonus: The wearer's SPD increases by 6% and Basic ATK DMG increases by 10%.
You want to get as much Crit Rate as possible for Jing Yuan, as he is very reliant on the stat. He will convert his crit rate to energy restoration, which can help alleviate his energy problems. He also enters the battlefield with 15 initial energy, which means that you can invest heavily into offensive stats instead of worrying about his Ultimate uptime.

We recommend focusing on diversifying your roster with more characters instead of trying to maximise the power level of a single character. While Jing Yuan is a solid character, you should try and get powerful units from every single damage type, and the right supports to go along with them.
