Modern Warfare 3 fans believe the matchmaking system will eventually kill the multiplayer.

Pre-Season for Modern Warfare 3 is well underway and as players continue working their way towards the coveted mastery camos, some matches in specific game modes are falling victim to SBMM.

SBMM, skill-based matchmaking, aims to create consistently competitive matches based on the skill level of players loading into the action. While some enjoy a high-octane match that's decided by a narrow margin, those after a more casual experience believe the consistently sweaty matches will hold the success of multiplayer back instead of moving it forward.

According to Reddit user ivory_tusks, Modern Warfare 3 matchmaking 'will kill' Sledgehammer Games' latest Call of Duty title.

The player says: "Something needs to be done. For the first time in years we have a CoD which has the potential to be great but SBMM is holding it back massively." Judging by the comments, there are plenty of others who believe SBMM is preventing Modern Warfare 3 from flourishing. Another adds: "This year it's [SBMM] really done a number on people already, and I think the masses just don't have the energy left after MW2 was already so rough.

Calls to change SBMM in Call of Duty aren't anything new. Many would prefer the feature to remain in Ranked play matches where a competitive match is imperative instead of playing a pivotal role in influencing the difficulty of game modes such as Team Deathmatch and Domination.

The chances of Sledgehammer Games making changes to Modern Warfare 3 SBMM are slim but the developer is no stranger to acknowledging player feedback. Perhaps matchmaking is toned down a little to create more balanced lobbies but removing it altogether is a long shot.

SBMM won't kill Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer but it could see a decreasing player count if some feel like there's no way of securing victory before Season 1 gets underway. We'll have to wait and see if the developer chooses to take action before the frustration grows even further.
