Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 already looks like a massive visual jump from 2013’s GTA V. However, fans of the series hope GTA 6 will massively improve on one aspect of the popular open world game: explorable buildings.

With the GTA 6 trailer now out in the wild with an associated release date, fans are heavily curating their wish lists for Rockstar’s next title. While huge Grand Theft Auto leaks have shown explorable buildings such as restaurants and shops, fans hope they can burgle individual homes like in 2004’s San Andreas.

A post on the GTA subreddit sees fans hoping for a massively expanded set of buildings to explore, and potentially rob, in the upcoming game. While explorable houses have been part of the series before, they’ve always been sparse and limited.

Fans explain that they would be okay with a smaller map for the new game compared to its predecessor if it’s more explorable than before. This would result in less overall land mass to explore, but more to do in it such as robbing shops, engaging in heists and more.

“I just want interiors to be functional,” one fan explained. “We have seen pawn shops and gun stores and gas stations. I would like to see strip malls and superstores like Walmart - this is integral to Florida…I like the way TBOGT and IV did nightclubs. I want to see more of this…I expect some homes in suburban and rural areas to be enterable. Just enough so that I feel like there is enough to discover and rob. Obviously I want to be able to loot homes. Would be cool if we carry larger items like games consoles and TVs to our car to pawn them.”

Rockstar did create much more engaging interiors in Red Dead Redemption 2, although the majority of that game was vast open wilderness. With the intensity of rendering a dense open world city, GTA 6’s interiors would be far more intensive on current gen hardware.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release sometime in 2025 on Xbox Series X and PS5. A PC release has not been announced, but will likely release sometime in the future.
