Fans were thrilled when Ed Boon revealed Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms would be the sequel to Scorpion's Revenge. Now, it appears the sequel will arrive much sooner than anybody anticipated. The juicy details were revealed in a tweet by Ed Boon.
Mortal Kombat legends: Scorpion's Revenge is a cherished animated movie based in the Mortal Kombat universe. The film loosely follows the events of Mortal Kombat but ends before Mortal Kombat 2. This sequel is thought to follow the events of Mortal Kombat 2 loosely.
Mortal Kombat: Battle of The Realms receives a release date and cover art
Ed Boon, the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, has revealed the official cover art for Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms along with the movie's release date. According to Boon's latest tweet, the Blu-ray and digital version of Battle of the Realms is scheduled to hit store shelves on August 31, 2021.
In the attached artwork for the Blu-Ray release, you can see Liu Kang, the younger Sub-Zero, Raiden, and the series logo. The background is the beloved symbol of the series.
Regarding the movie's plot, Gameinformer reports that it will follow on from Scorpion's Revenge and take place in the future. Scorpion searches for the ancient Kamidogu while Earthrealm's defenders travel to Outworld. A trailer has yet to be released, but it's probably coming soon since the movie is set to arrive in two months.
Most of the survivors from the first film, including Joel McHale's Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter's Sonya Blade, and Patrick Seitz's Scorpion, will return for this sequel. In addition, a number of the new fighters who did not take part in the last battle are supposedly coming to this movie: Smoke, Kuai Liang, Kung Lao, Jade, and D'Vorah.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms will be released digitally and physically on August 31, 2021.
