When Warzone launched in early March with a solitary trios playlist, the popular game mode has seen the addition of other core playlists such as solos and quads; however, it's still yet to see duos.
Could we see duos arrive in Warzone at some point in the future? It seems like that's certainly the case according to Taylor Kurosaki (Infinity Ward's Narrative Lead) and Amos Hodge (Raven Software's Director).
Modern Warfare Season 4 will likely arrive at the end of the month and we will hopefully see it arrive in time for launch - here's what we know.
Duos In Warzone?
During an interview with GamerGen, the two key people working on Warzone discussed its future (including how it will be implemented into COD 2020's rumoured Vietnam title) and what's coming in the near future.
Battle Royale duos are still missing, despite a duos Plunder playlist being added not long ago.
Amos Hodge said: "I'm not sure where duos is, we got some bugs to work out with duos. But we're listening to the community," he explained, "There's just no exact time I can give you for now, but duos is coming."
They admitted that a lot of the issues rely on populating multiple 150 player matches - it seems adding too many modes could spread the player base too thin and hinder matchmaking. The impression we get is that there are a lot of decisions that need to be made and the devs are still trying to establish what the core modes are and which modes they can rotate in and out.
No doubt that getting the right balance is an art in itself and removing one playlist will upset a corner of the community while pleasing others.
Future Modes Coming?
It's no secret that more modes will arrive with time, we've only seen one "non-traditional" playlist so far called 'Scopes and Scatter Guns' - a BR variant featuring just snipers and shotguns.
There are a number of other variants that have been discovered in the game's code that was discovered pre-season 3:
- Battle Royale Duos - Teams of Two. Loot and Kill. Last team standing wins.
- Battle Royale High Action "Claustrophobia" - Loot and Kill. The Gas closes in faster, so get moving.
- Battle Royale One Shot - Battle Royale with 1-shot Headshots and no loadout drops.
- Realism Battle Royale
- Realism Plunder
- Hardcore Battle Royale
- Hardcore Plunder
- Plunder Solo
- Troopers
- Infinite Revive
- No Revive

Recently, @ModernWarzone has also dug into the code to find additional modes including:

Most of which seem self-explanatory, but a few appear to have an air of mystery about them and can provide a welcome surprise.
Amos Hodge said in his interview that "there will definitely be new modes" in Season 4.
New Content
Amos Hodge also confirmed that new content is coming to the game including:
- New items in-game that you can put in your loadout
- New items to find in BR and Plunder that aren't in your loadout
- New Field Upgrades
- New modes
- New loot
- Narrative story
