The final day of LOL Worlds 2021's Play-In Round 1 saw two tie-breakers after the end of regulation matches. While one of the tie-breaker was for a slot in the group stage, the other one saw two teams desperately fighting for survival in the championship.
For any LOL professional, the stakes seldom get higher than at the World Championships. With that in mind, two teams have been eliminated from the championship after the first round of the Play-In concluded.

Play-In Round 1 Ends
The results of the final day's regulation matches are:
Group A
- LNG Esports defeated Infinity
- PEACE defeated RED Canids
Following these matches, Infinity found themselves eliminated from the championship while LNG Esports secured their spot in the groups. Hanwha Life Esports, PEACE, and RED Canids will now play in the second round of the Play-In to secure their final shot at a spot in the groups.
Group B
- DetonatioN FocusMe defeated Beyond Gaming
- Unicorns Of Love defeated Cloud9
Following these matches, Beyond Gaming and Unicorns Of Love found themselves tied at the bottom of the group table with one win each. On the other hand, both Cloud9 and DetonatioN FocusMe found themselves tied for the top spot with one defeat and three wins each.
This resulted in two tie-breakers and here are the results,
- Beyond Gaming eliminated Unicorn Of Love from the championship
- DetonatioN FocusMe secured their place in the Group Stage, knocking Cloud9 to the Play-In Round 2.
Play-In Round 2
The second Play-In round for LOL Worlds 2021 is scheduled to begin on 8th October and conclude on the very next day. The format will feature the third and fourth-placed teams from the groups facing off against each other.
The losing team from this encounter will be eliminated from the tournament while the winning teams will face off against the second-placed team from their alternate group.
In this order, the fixtures for the second round are:
- PEACE vs RED Canids
- Galatasaray Esports vs Beyond Gaming
- Cloud9 vs Winner of PEACE vs RED Canids
- Hanwha Life Esports vs Winner of Galatasaray Esports vs Beyond Gaming.
Following these four BO5 series, two more teams will make their way into the group stage while four of these teams are eliminated from the championship.
