The LOL World Championship 2021 begins in a few hours and needless to say, the entire community is eagerly waiting for the first play-in round to begin. Most details about the championship such as venue relocation as well as the Worlds' patch have already been revealed and discussed in the weeks leading up to the tournament.
Having said that, the stage is set for the best teams from around the globe to take their shot at being the best League of Legends team on the planet. However, even before making it to the group stage, 10 teams have to go through the deadly and heart-breaking play-in rounds. At the end of the two play-in rounds, a total of 4 teams will go through to the group stage while the remaining six teams will be eliminated from the championship.
With that out of the way, let's dive in and take a look at everything that you need to know about the first play-in round of LOL Worlds 2021.
Play-In Round 1 - LOL Worlds 2021
The 10 teams participating in the play-in round according to their groups are:
Group A

- LNG Esports
- Infinity
- PEACE
- RED Canids
Group B
- Beyond Gaming
- Cloud9
- Unicorns Of Love
- Galatasaray Esports
- DetonatioN FocusMe
However, out of these 10 teams, only four will be able to move forward in the tournament by qualifying for the group stage. The other six teams will, unfortunately, have to head home after getting eliminated from LOL Worlds 2021.
Play-In Round 1 Schedule
The schedule for the first round of play-in for LOL Worlds 2021 will feature three days of action, starting from 5th October and running until 7th October. The matches that are supposed to be played during this round are:

The schedule for the first round of play-in does look extremely interesting. Needless to say, with the quality of LOL that will be up on display, LOL Worlds 2021 is indeed going to be one of the biggest esports events of the year.
Format of Play-In Round 1
The first play-in round will observe a single round-robin format with two different groups. The team positioned at the top of each group after all the matches have been played will be granted direct entry into the group stage of Worlds 2021. However, the bottom-placed team from each group will be eliminated from the championship at the end of the first round.
As for the remaining six teams that placed between 2nd and 4th, they will be heading into the second round of play-in. Two teams from the second round play-in will qualify for the group stages.
