Modern Warfare 2 Cranked mode explained

Cranked is a variation of the hugely popular Team Deathmatch mode. Although the objective of scoring the most kills stays the same, you receive a movement bonus, faster reload speed, and aim-down-sight speed.

Although those bonuses are all well and good, you also earn a 30-second countdown. By scoring a kill or an assist, you earn an extension on the timer but if the clock runs down to zero, you explode, bringing your killing spree to an end.

Modern Warfare 2 Cranked tips

Running and gunning

Running and gunning with a mobile SMG or shotgun is a surefire way to achieve success in a Cranked match. Although these weapon categories primarily excel in close-range engagements, the extra mobility earned through the Cranked timer means you can run around at breakneck speed.

Mastering movement

The faster movement speeds take some getting used to in Modern Warfare 2's Cranked. By flying around the corners, you can gain a split-second advantage which makes it slightly easier to reset the timer in the heat of battle.

If you can do this, you're guaranteed to go on a rampage and top the scoreboard with relative ease.
