Halo Infinite Season 5 new maps and modes

Thanks to several trailers on the official Halo YouTube channel, we've got an idea of the new maps and modes coming this season.

Prism is a beautiful map set in a cavern full of bright pink crystals, and the links to the Needler don't end there. A swift environmental death waits for players who stand too close to glowing crystals - the trailer shows that shooting these crystals releases some deadly homing projectiles. There are also plenty of wide-open spaces and tight tunnels for some fun gunfights.

Forbidden is the season's second Arena map, seemingly set in a long-abandoned temple. It bears some resemblance to Destiny's PvP maps, with long sight lines and alcoves for players to duck in and out of. Fans have been feeling the nostalgia, comparing it to Delta Halo from Halo 2.

Extraction mode has returned with a twist for Halo 4 fans. Tasked with extracting relics before the other team, players will need to hold an area or steal control of it from their enemies. For those unfamiliar, it's fairly similar to bomb defusal modes seen in the likes of Counter-Strike.

Firefight King of the Hill is also teased as 'coming soon to season 5', so more details will likely arrive after the season has already been out for a few weeks.

New content and cosmetics

Forge creators will be pleased with the news that AI enemies can be added to forge maps, allowing players to create their own mini-campaigns and challenges.

Additionally, battle pass XP can now be earned in custom games, with the season's cosmetics focusing on a Flood theme. Helmets can be equipped across armour cores, too.

More excitingly, however, Master Chief - or at least his armour - will be gracing the game's multiplayer as a reward for reaching max hero rank. It'll be one hell of a grind (over 2000 matches), but worth it for some hardcore players.
